Percy the youngest of 4 children was born to the late Percy Sr. and Clara Mayberry on June 30,1925 in Birmingham, and raised in Centreville, Alabama. Percy was called to his eternal home October 16, 2016 .He was preceded in death by his brother Remus Mayberry(Birmingham) and three sisters; Gladys Grant and Clara Williams(Birmingham) and Minnie Pearl Milline(Cincinnati).
Percy served honorably in World War II receiving EAME Theater Ribbon with two bronze stars, a Victory Medal WWII, and a Good Conduct Medal.
He came to Cincinnati in the late forties and joined New Unity Baptist Church on 6th Street Hill under the leadership of Rev. A.A. Freeman. He served as president of the Usher Board and was a member of the Male Chorus.
Percy met the love of his life, Melita Gordon and they were married on September 30,1961. To this union one daughter was born, Lisa Melita.
Percy loved family and time often was spent in Akron, Ohio and Birmingham, Alabama. Percy enjoyed a good debate anytime with friends and family. He was an avid fisherman and music enthusiast. Percy retired from the Post Office where he was supervisor in building services. He received several commendations for his work. He loved to go to church and always said “The Lord brought me a mighty long way”. When he was able Percy got on his knees and prayed every night.
Percy leaves to cherish his memory: Wife:Melita; Daughters: Lisa and Eugenia; Son-in-law:Robert; Granddaughter:Taylor; Grandsons: Marvin,Stephen & Richard; Special nephew:Billy; Special niece: Hope; Special friends: Leon Miller, Maurice Adams and Robert Walton. A host of devoted nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Visitation is from 9:00 am until 10:00 am, on Saturday, October 22, 2016, at the New Unity Baptist Church, 2124 Burnett Avenue, Cincinnati (45219). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m Rev. Mark A. Toney will officiate.
Interment will follow at Landmark Memorial Gardens, 1600 Glendale Milford Road , Cincinnati, Ohio 45215. Jon Colbert, Robert Colbert, William Colbert, Trenton Grant, Marvin Ridley, Stephen Ridley, and Anthony Williams will serve as pallbearers.
