Early Head Start
What is Early Head Start (EHS)?
Early Head Start is a Federal program that has the capacity to serve all expecting
mothers and children up to 3 years old (Office, 2014). EHS began in 1994 with President
George Bush Jr. He reauthorized the Head Start Act so that children who are at risk have the
opportunity to get help before the age of 3. Unlike Head Start, EHS will focus on child
development, proper nutrition and family relationships. EHS is also funded by the
Department of Health and Human Services (Idaho, 2013). The closest EHS program is in
‘Twin Fall, 1D. There is also a program up in Coeur d’ Alene, ID.
