Qais. Dominoes.

October 2016
Learning Priority: growing sense of self as a learner
Today you sat for ages working out which dominoes
went together and which ones had the same number
or picture on them. I spent some time working with
you Qais to encourage you to look at the dots on
each domino and look for another
one with matching dots on one end and then put
these ones together.
You also spent time just lining them up to make a
rectangle or a long line. This is showing you as being
independent and having the ability to self learn.
You are learning that each dot on the dominoes
represents a number and you are starting to make
the connection between the picture and the number.
This is one of the first concepts in mathematics. The
picture dominoes are easier to work with as you can
easily match two pictures that are the same.
It would be fun to see if we could play dominoes with a
partner and see if we can get all the dominoes matched
and see if one person can get all their dominoes on to the
table. We could also have two dice and you have to roll the
dice then match the number of spots on the dice with the
dominoes.
