This poem reflects on the inevitability of death and one's last breath, questioning how death will come and whether in that final moment one can remember their spiritual teachings or attain enlightenment. It suggests our last breath determines where we will be reborn, so this life is a training to face death well and make the most of our final moment.

Gasping for my last breath As elements dissolve. How will I die? I do not know But death is as certain As the changing seasons Will I remember my Guru? Will I shoot for Clear Light Or will I be stupefied and mindless? Our last breath Is a vehicle to our next life: Where will it take us? A time to live and a time to die; Life is a training to die well What else could it be? Kelsang Pagpa 10 7- 2016
