Skill Continuum: Attending to Punctuation Pause when you see a period at the end of a sentence. Read a sentence with an exclamation point with strong emotion. Read a sentence with a question mark as a question, making your voice go up at the end. Read ellipses (...) with expression. Skip your eyes ahead to the end punctuation mark before you read a sentence, so you can read the sentence with correct expression. Pause briefly when you get to a comma. Make your voice sound like the character talking when you are reading dialogue. Note: Some of the Items on this continuum may be rearranged to meet the needs of the students or texts. ‘© Alison Ryan, LearningAt ThePrimaryPond.com
