Skill Continuum: The Role of the Author Explain how an author made a text funny. Explain how an author included a surprise in the text. Explain how an author made a text interesting or informative for the reader. Explain an author's purpose for writing (to entertain the reader with a story or to teach the reader). Describe strategies an author used fo teach the reader (te. including information, photographs, text features, etc.). Explain why an author chose to use certain words in a text. Describe how an author organized a text. Describe what an author might be trying to teach us (moral/lesson) through a story. Describe simple aspects of an author/illustrator’s style (ie. uses lots of speech bubbles, interesting words, question/answer format, includes lots of surprising information, incorporates humor, etc.) Describe what kind of text structure an author has used to teach the reader about something (ie. compare and contrast or problem and solution).
