Children to sit on the floor
Read through the newspaper article with them
Go through it with them and pick out each aspect as seen in the worksheet

Children to go to their desks and use the worksheet as a tool to help them write their own
news article
Children can use the internet to research an olypic event they want to write their article onYou Tube could be a good way for children to be able to see more detail in order to write
their article
Offer examples such asgold medal wins, world records broken, a specific event or race, a
highlight of the games so far

Conclusion
ACTIVITY 3:
(10 minutes)
Come back to the floor and discuss what types of topics the children chose to write on
What did they learn about reading and writing a news article?
What are some of the key features they have to remember?
What makes a news article different to other written texts?
