DOOM OF

MALACCA
S DAULAT
By: Hidayat Azman

ACT 1 Harbor / Port

(Eerie Music)

All : To Live to Live, To death to Death 2x

Slave A : Dawn to lawn with mighty strength, start my routine with meagre loaf of bread. I work
again and again till I feel hungry till I crave that meagre loaf of bread again, at dusk to gain again my
strength!
All : To work to Live to death to death 2x
Slave B : Staying night long to earn some more, with a little bit of luck earning more than before. Yet
the more from before becomes less than a more, when today 1 tahil the bread for tomorrow 2 tahil the
bread for!
All : To work to live to work to death!
Slave C : I feel luckier than these two, doing more than being a crew. Merchant traders named by few
where living is better than WHO? No ONE!! I buy things from people to sell and they sell back to
people that sold me my glass, that is so EXPENSIVE! So I sell my things pricier where I will get
luckier to buy a much better glass OH WAIT? It is getting pricier? WHY? WHY? WHY?
All: THE TAX! THE TAX! THE TAX!
Slave B: We used to have better tax! Things for a reason for big giants like you to stop making a fool
for us! Where what you earn will eventually make a better living for us! We work for you, you work
for Kingdom and Kingdom gives back to? US!
Slave C : But look now! We are not getting any better? In fact a bite of hike in price still leaves us
bitter? WHY?
All: Why? Why? Why?
Slave A: Where does our tahils go?
All: I dont know!
Slave B: Where does my money go?
All : I dont know!
Slave C: Where does my reserve go???
All: We do not KNOW!
Slave A: Thats it! I am going to report this to our Sultan!
All with Slaves: NO!
Slave A: Why? Isnt here our most merciful and protector of the realm? Then who should I bring this
claim?
Slave B: Not his majesty. This will make you a durhaka subject. That will bad. A bad name for you.
Slave C: Let him be! At least his Majesty will realize how dire this situation is and it needs his royal
hand to get dirty!

Slave B: Blasphemy! Treason is not some play that you can blatantly hook these days! He has his eyes
everywhere! This will not end well. I am afraid for you, Chetty Sir.
Chetty (Slave C): Fret not, lady. You shall know that his Majestys hand cant reach our people. In
fact, we also have our own protector
Slave B: Tun Mutahir? He is nothing but a pompous old man seeking his glory in his delusional
world. In fact, I think he is the very reason why our taxes have increased tremendously!
Chetty: Cheiitt! Dey! Do not make this a personal attack! I will smack your stupid head
Slave A: Silence! This is not a time for us to get carried away with this tiny problem. You are fighting
for a lost cause just there. We need to unite our people to address this issue to His..
Chetty: (interrupt) DO IT! I think He needs to get his hand dirty! This crazy lady is the one thats
making a fiasco
Slave B : (interrupt) Hey do not pin it on me! You dare to mock His highness through his most loyal
subject. I am done! You durhaka people deserve each other. Granted his majestys mercy and grace
that allows you being to even stand here.
Tun Mutahir enters
Tun Mutahir: In what name is this commotion all about?
Chetty: Bendahara sir! *Speaking in Malayali*
Tun Mutahir: hey HEY Keep it comprehensible please. We have half wits around as you can see.
Pray, what is the commotion all about?
Chetty: Nothing sir.
Slave B: Nothing? He was insulting his Highness my lord.
Tun Mutahir: Oh really? Then it must be a shame then. Well, I shall handle this personally. To what
extent shall handle this? Lets keep that in mind then shall we?
Slave B: What? You are going to let this go away? You YOU are toying with DAULAT just because
he is your PEOPLE? You treacherous, pompous.
Tun Mutahir: And I am going to turn you to His Majesty!! You have been using his name for your
own benefit! GUARDS! Take this crazy lady to meet his end!
Raja Mendeliar: Halt! There there. That is a strong accusation, Tuan Bendahara. Care to explain?
Tun Mutahir: Now Now, what do we have here? Isnt a little bit late to break a fight, dear Chief of
Port, Raja Mendeliar?
Raja Mendeliar: I see, this is where its going then. I think.
Tun Mutahir : (interrupts) Oh please, we cant bear another thought from you here chief. There is no
commotion around here, just a tiny bit quarrels from old friends here. Perhaps you have other pressing
matters to attend to Chief of Port? For instance, the real commotion at Tanjung Ketil? (laughing
sarcastically) well if you will excuse me, Raja Mendeliar.
2

Raja Mendeliar: well, the pathway is yours, Dato Bendahara.

Tun Mutahir: (laughing heartily) Indeed!..
Messenger barge into conversation carrying news that will change the entirety of Malaccas
history
Messenger: Ampun Tuan Bendahara. Good news indeed. Remember the Roman-looking Ship that we
saw sailing around our straits? It has landed my lord. And believe it or not, we have pale skinned
people bringing all sorts of items that are unheard off. I saw some fireworks that can be used to fire at
human. Some metal looking shield that is almost a size of our people my lord! And I believe we also
have a cartographer too, my lord.
Tun Mutahir: Cartographer? In what manner of the world a cartographer wants in this kingdom?
(Laughing) This is getting interesting. Get them to come over here!
Messenger: You are in luck, my lord. They are just around the corner, the cartographer and the
assistant, who seems to know too much as well my lord.
Tun Mutahir: Bring them at once.
Messenger: Ampun, Tuan Bendahara.
The Messenger came in together with two pale skinned men who seem to have gritty and
intentional look.
Messenger: Ampun, Tuan Bendahara, our guests. Sir, please introduce yourselves.
Lopes de Sequiera: Greetings, Bendahara. I was named Diogo Lopes de Sequiera. My people called
me Diogo. For this man over here, was named Rui de Araujo. Contented to be called Rui. At your
service Bendahara.
Tun Mutahir: Interesting, well Kitol, you have never mentioned that this man can speak many
languages. I am amazed by the tongue that spoke so many languages, which could bring glad tidings
or abhorred news. I hope it does not sound too despicable, Mr Lopes de Sequiera.
Lopes de Sequiera: We are not here to ruin this zenith of a Kingdom, bendahara. Nothing would
shame me more. We are here to get something. Something that could be exchanged for our goods in
return. Consider ourselves bringing you to a new phase of civilization sir Bendahara.
Tun Mutahir: A man could not ask for more. The beauty of trades are either winning or be killed.
Hope that you will be greedy enough. Well, welcome to Malacca, sir Lopes de Sequiera.
Lopes de Sequiera: Could not be more excited.
Tun Mutahir: Oh, pardon my ignorance. This is our Chief of Port, Raja Mendeliar. He will be in
charge of your logistics and preparation to lodgings around port. Feel free to make yourselves at
home, guests.
Tun Mutahir leaves the port.
Rui: Are we going to be alright, sir? We are just here to chart the map for King Emmanuel. Nothing to
do with their politics. I am getting a feeling that we will not be safe here, Sir de Sequiera.
3

Lopes de Sequiera: Oh Please, we are here to chart a Map, nothing else. Afraid not, Rui, we will be
the first men to explore this new land, and with our map, we will be rich in Portugal. Our map will be
sold at highest price. We just need to hang in a little Rui. This is going to take a while.
Si Kitol brought the two of them to their lodgings whilst Raja Mendeliar introduced them to the
Kingdom of Malacca.
Curtain Close

ACT 2 (CASTLE)
Majestic BalaiRung Seri is decorated to celebrate the nameday of Tun Fatimah, Tun Mutahirs
only daughter. This special occasion is attended by the Sultan himself, as Tun Fatimah is ready
to be betrothed to one lucky man. To celebrate this day, Sultan called upon his favourite
dancers to dance for her Ladyship Tun Fatimah.
Curtain Opens
Si Kitol: Ampun Tuanku, our humble gratitude to Allah and his beloved prophet Muhammad for
blessing this joyous occasion with your presence. Daulat Tuanku. Our humble and sincere offerings to
you our King and the next in throne Raja Ahmad, for soiling your omnipresences in our modest and
ordinary occasion. I present to you, the beauties of Malacca, our pride nation. Daulat Tuanku!
Dancers enters to BalaiRung Seri and danced upon the Asli and Inang Dance.
Tun Mutahir: Ampun Tuanku, thank you very much to everyone for your presence in our grand
nameday to my only daughter, my moon, my life, my everything Tun Fatimah. I have nothing to feel
but honoured for all your presence, especially for your grace appearance, Tuanku Sultan Mahmud
Syah, the sole and great ruler of Malacca Empire. I hope with Tuankus blessing, the sole purpose of
this nameday shall bear to its fruition. The reason why this event is very meaningful is because my
only daughter, my dearest Tun Fatimah is to be wed. She has come to an age of which, by our
ancestors beliefs and practices, should be ready to have her own home. To have a complete and
happy home, one must be happy with his or her other part. Hence, I have allowed the choice of my
only daughter to be her true partner. Who is the lucky man? I shall present to you, the most renowned
man of age, Son of Laksamana Kuning, TUN ALI!
Some were excited; some were hesitant with the news. But the face of Sultan has nothing to hide,
but anger and shame. He is definitely displeased with the news. His highness quickly stormed
off the occasion leaving everyone bewildered. Raja Mendeliar saw this quickly follow the Sultan
leaving BalaiRung Seri.
Tun Mutahir: I am deeply sorry for the gratuitous event just now. I believe our Sultan is not well. His
highness is very busy dealing with our ever growing nation from internal to external predicaments.
His highness deserves his rest. Daulat Tuanku. Now, sirs, ladies and lords, please join me to dining
hall.
As all honorary guests proceed to the dining hall, Tun Ali stayed, waiting for a right time, to
approach his love for life.
Tun Ali: Fatimah, come here.
4

Tun Fatimah: what?

Tun Ali: here, closer.
Tun Fatimah: You know it is inappropriate Ali. What is it that you want. (smile)
Tun Ali: you know what happened to our Sultan? He seemed furious.
Tun Fatimah: You know the story right? He wanted me to be his third wife. My father know to well
that it is not going to end well for me. He let me decide because he cant bear his thought of giving me
to his Highness. My happiness is his happiness. Even the Sultan always pressed this matter to father,
he always kept it silence. He would not promise anything to the Sultan. But father promised to let me
choose. Then I chose you.
Tun Ali: Why me Fatimah? You have never replied to my signs.
Tun Fatimah: (chuckles) I have always believed in Allahs destiny. He put me here for a reason.
Remember, Sayidatina Khadijah found our beloved Prophet. I feel that maybe I need to make that
choice, to find at least a person that follows prophets best trait, Al- Amin.
Tun Ali: the trusthworthy. You you trust me Fatimah?
Tun Fatimah: With all my life.
Mak: Fatimah! Fatimah! Come here. We need to be at home by sunset. I need to go to your cousins
house, your aunts house. Hurry!
Tun Fatimah: coming! Ali I
Tun Ali has already left the hall. Leaving a bracelet with a note.
Tun Fatimah read the notes and after she wears the bracelet
Tun Fatimah: Keep it as my promise till the day when our children carry my familys name. Ali.
(chuckles) Here! Be there right away.
Lights off
Lights on at front stage
Tun Mutahir is seen walking with Admiral Cheng Dong, Chinese Kingdom royal messenger and
mediator to Malaccan Kingdom.
Cheng Dong: Tun Mutahir, what was the commotion just now? Why was our Sultan so displeased?
Have you promised anything to his Highness?
Tun Mutahir: I have promised nothing. I want nothing for his Highness but his blessing. But his
highness continuously and belligerently proposed to marry my only daughter. Which father would
want his daughter to end up carrying such fate in her life?
Cheng Dong: Careful Tun, you know you are treading upon thin line of durhaka. This is not going to
end well, my friend.

Tun Mutahir: What else you would suggest, friend? Have you been in this situation? Oh, excuse my
memory but you have no daughter to compare, am I right?
Cheng Dong: No need to be hostile, friend. I will make my way now. Remember, save yourself when
you are tied up because no one will be at your feet.
Tun Mutahir: I WILL MAKE THEM! (cooling down) make your way, Admiral. I have nothing to
worry about. You never know what families would do for each other.
Cheng Dong: Good day, Bendahara.
Cheng Dong leaves the area. Si Kitol comes in.
Si Kitol: Datuk Bendahara! Problem.
Tun Mutahir: What is it that require my utmost attention even when I am not in the mood now, Kitol?
Si Kitol: We found the foreigners strolling around the Castles area, Datuk. Through their actions, I
really think that they were spying.
Tun Mutahir: My lord, what a news. Thank you Kitol. I shall take this to Tuanku Sultans attention.
Si Kitol: Most welcome, Datuk Bendahara.
Lights off.
Lights on at all places (BalaiRung Seri)
Gong
All: DAULAT TUANKU!!!!
Sultan: At rest, lords. I heard we will be receiving a good guest today. May I know who it is?
Raja Mendeliar: Ampun Tuanku, Diogo Lopes de Sequiera and Rui di Araujo. Ampun Tuanku.
Lopes de Sequiera: Ampun tuanku. I have come from Portugal to bring you glad tidings. My assistant,
Rui de Araujo has built an aqueduct system for the area that we have stayed in, my lord. I hope that
will be a good offering to prolong our visit in this beautiful and bountiful country, tuanku. Ampun
tuanku.
Sultan: (Laughing) My my, a pale skinned foreigner with a same tongue as ours? Interesting! Pray,
have you asked any payments from the villagers, Sir?
Lopes de Sequiera: Ampun Tuanku, of course that was never my intention. I gave all my expertise and
knowledge to ensure this civilization thrives. I grew to like this Kingdom, Tuanku. With diversified
populations, this place is truly a melting pot of culture. Ampun Tuanku, even my assistant requested
to stay for a little longer.
Sultan: Is it true? (pointing at Rui)
Rui: Ampun Tuanku. Yes. I have found much potential that can be built upon this kingdom. It will be
the next empire that goes along the same line as Alexander the Great! Ampun Tuanku.

Sultan: (laughing) I have never felt happier than today! A promise, for a better future, better kingdom
for my people. My city! (laughs again) Whats more, you will be doing this for no charge! I think you
deserve more than long stay in here! Mendeliar, show my gratitude to these guests by giving them a
true Malaccan hospitality. You will now be moved to the castles quarters. You will stay amongst my
top generals family members. You will experience all that is needed. As for your contributions,
Malacca is not that poor for not giving any tahils or dinars. Therefore, we have prepared dinars for
you. Tell me all your needs, it shall be granted. National treasuries are never depleted, am I right,
Datuk Bendahara?
Tun Mutahir: Ampun Tuanku, Indeed.
Sultan: Well, except for your daughter, am I right? (laughing then keep quiet) Guards, show our guests
their way.
Raja Mendeliar: All of us will show ourselves out, Tuanku. Ampun Tuanku.
All lords and guests are out leaving Tun Mutahir and Sultan.
Tun Mutahir: Ampun Tuanku beribu ampun, sembah patik mohon diampun, as the reach of skies to the
depth of lands, your Daulat remains your highness. Ampun Tuanku.
Sultan: Ah Datuk Bendahara, enough with this superfluous nonsense. I thought we have come to an
agreement. Your daughter for your position. Or it is still has not crossed your mind?
Tun Mutahir: I am afraid it is beyond our reach my King. It is her decision, and as a father, her
protector, I should be able to protect her rights to choose, no? And My King, you are our protector,
where lies all the Daulat and strengths under your command. She is your humble subject. Should she
not also be subjected under your protection, our benevolent and merciful King?
Sultan: Smart with words as ever, Tun Mutahir.
Tun Mutahir: Thus, my standing here with you, your Highness.
Sultan: Indeed.
Tun Mutahir: I am afraid our conversation just now deviated from the essence of my urgent request to
seek for your presence today my King. Ampun Tuanku. I have a bad news for you.
Sultan: Bad news? (chuckles) I suppose you carry that with you all the time, right Datuk Bendahara?
Tun Mutahir: (shrug) Indeed, my King. This is in regards to the foreigners.
Sultan: Interesting. Carry on.
Tun Mutahir: I believe that they are here to wage war against us, my King.
Sultan: Datuk Bendahara, words without proof is anchor on a roof. It defeats the purpose of words.
Tun Mutahir: We have sightings of their breach in restricted area in the castle, Ampun Tuanku.
Sultan: They have my blessings. They are here to improve our livelihood. They should need
accessibility to restricted areas.

Tun Mutahir: Not without my permission, my King. I feel this will mock against your security and
eventually your protection of this Kingdom, where people will start talking about foreigners who can
get in and out of this castle more frequent than your Laksamana.
Sultan: They can shut their mouth and mind their own business. Unless you need me to do that.
Tun Mutahir: Whats broken is hard to mend. Lets not make this even worse.
Sultan: Then, get on with it. Improve the security of this castle while they are in our soil.
Tun Mutahir: Ampun Tuanku, as your command.
Sultan: But no harm shall be upon those foreign souls. They are under my protection. Should any plan
to harm them even a slightest force, you shall carry the weight for that sin.
Tun Mutahir: As your command, my King. Ampun Tuanku.
Tun Mutahir leaves the BalaiRung Seri. Si Kitol comes in.
Sultan: Tell him it is exactly like what he said. Let him have his sweet time. This will end quite fast.
Kitol: As your command, Ampun Tuanku Beribu Ampun.

ACT 3 Harbor
Lights on
Commotion at the harbour. People starts talking about the foreigners.
Chitty: Cheitt! That blardy foreigners. They think they can get us that easily? Where is our dignity?
Slave B: Kan! It was so uncalled for. They just think they can get away with our treasures just like
that?
Slave A: Yes! This has gone too far! How come they get the best of treatments whilst His own people,
are so miserable like this?
Slave B: Now I can see, as vivid as the blue sky, even Daulat is not protecting us! We are doomed!
All: Yes we are doomed!!!
Tun Mutahir: Silence! In what manner of Allahs grace is this. You people have gone too far, even
you! (pointing at chitty). Our kingdoms security is in dire need of look out. And here are you people
spreading rumors and making it even worse. Guards! Prepare to take them to guillotine stage. We
need to create some lessons for these fools.
Chitty: Wait wait! Ampun Datuk Bendahara, it is not rumors. See!! (Showing map)
Slave B: That is our map, the map of Malacca!
Slave A: and now our position has been compromised!
8

Chitty: Just please take a look and see for yourselves! The foreigners are set to sail back to their
foreign lands with this! This will make them rich! If they know more than us about our own Kingdom,
we shall be nothing but a goat grazing on shepherds lawn!
Slave B: Rather than just letting this happen, you should put them to a stop, Datuk Bendahara. They
are stealing away our precious treasure! Imagine what we can do with this map. We could sell to other
traders and make us rich for start! And with money coming in for the tax, our Kingdom shall be the
greatest empire of all, surpassing even the great Ming Dynasty!
Tun Mutahir: Silence, I have been too soft of a Bendahara in this Kingdom. Guards, put their lives to
end and make it a strong message to all Malaccans that Daulat is not to be debated by pariahs like you
people.
All: Bendahara!!!! Ampun bendahara. Ampunnn! Dont let us go bendahara please! Please dont.
AARRRGHHHH!!!!!!
Kitol: Datuk Bendahara, what are we going to do with this? If the accusation is true, we are doomed.
If not, we are also doomed.
Tun Mutahir: Yes, to kill them , it will invite the wrath of our King. To let them go will be a doom for
Malacca, in treasury and also security of Malacca.
Kitol: What will you have me do, Datuk?
Tun Mutahir: (Whispers) That would be all.
Kitol: (Grins) Ampun Datuk Bendahara.
Both leaves the stage.
Enters Lopes, Rui and some crew.
Lopes the Sequiera: Rui, we shall be rich! We have yet to show this to our King Emmanuel. Imagine
how people across Kingdoms and Empires will seek for our map! We shall make our names in this
life, Rui!
Rui: Yes sir. But I have a bad feeling about this. This will not play very well for Datuk Bendahara, Sir.
Lopes de Sequiera: We have that covered, remember? The Sultan is playing a big role here. We are
under his protection. That word they always use, Daulat am I right? It also applies for people under
His Majestys protection so we do not have to worry at all! Smile boy! We are heading home
Troops of guards hail in on the crew. All were obliterated, slashed and killed. Rui tried to fight
back but captured. Lopes were severely injured but saved by Tun Fatimah.
Tun Fatimah: Run, sir. I am afraid this land does not accept you here anymore. GO!
The guards fought Tun Fatimah but to no avail, they are defeated. One of guard had Rui
captured and get him out of sight. Tun Fatimah helped Lopes to leave Malacca.
Lopes de sequiera: What have I done to you people that I have been treated like this!

Tun Fatimah: I am afraid someone is not happy with you. Please, there is nothing that you can do
here.
Lopes de Sequiera: But I can do plenty! I helped building the aqueducts for Malacca, providing clean
water to all quarters. I opened up an area for half of Malaccan population to stay. There is no reason
for them not to be happy.
Tun Fatimah: LOOK! Look at your skin! Look at mine! We are different. There is no room for
harmony if you do not respect the cultures among each other. I know what you have done. Thank you
sir but I know the good I know the bad. Believe me, it is best for you to leave this Kingdom.
Lopes de Sequiera: What is wrong with just exploring and some maps?
Tun Fatimah: For some, it is everything. Some things are better left untouched, for the consequences
might haunt you to eternity. Farewell, Sir Lopes de Sequiera.
Tun Fatimah leaves the harbour.
Lopes de sequiera: You will never know what is coming for you, Malacca.
Lopes de sequiera leaves the harbour, sailing back to Portugal.

ACT 4 Balairung Seri
Lights on
People gathered in BalaiRung Seri. Looks like something big is about to happen. People
whispering in BalaiRung Seri. Sultan Mahmud Syah, Raja Ahmad, Tun Mutahir & wife, Tun
Ali, Tun Fatimah, Admiral Cheng Dong, Raja Mendeliar attend this session but Tun Mutahir
sits in the middle of Balairung Seri.
Sultan: Argh! I cant believe this is happening. Under my rule? Under my nose? Who is able to
answer for this?
Raja Mendeliar: I believe Datuk Bendahara has answer for it. Ampun Tuanku.
Tun Mutahir: Ampun Tuanku, I do not understand this. This only concerns about my action. I shall
take full responsibility of it but after you hear me our Tuanku. Do not let some incompetent minds
who does not know ins and outs of our Kingdom matters to poison you, my King.
Admiral Cheng Dong: Absolutely, Sultan Mahmud Syah, why the family members must be foiled into
this matters? It would be irrelevant for this court, Sultan.
Tun Mutahir: Court? What Court? Tuanku! What is the meaning of this?
Sultan: All of you SILENCE! I shall have a say in this. This is MY Castle. My Kingdom. I shall say
what I want to say! You think you have a slightest power over me? The ruler of this Kingdom of
Daulat? Have you no sense of empathy to yourself? Or should I say, idiotic?
Tun Mutahir: Ampun Tuanku, we have no such intention to trespass your might and power, my King.

10

Sultan: My King? My King? (Laugh maniacally) How can you claim I, am your King while You have
done nothing but disobeying me? Do you know they were under my protection? Do you know the
PORTUGUESE WERE MY GUESTS?
Tun Mutahir: I believe I do your highness. Ampun Tuanku. But the stake of Malacca is very high
here. We are talking about breach of information to our land, my King.
Sultan: And that makes your eligible to disobey my order and proceed with your gut? You do know
that it is durhaka to do so, right?
Tun Mutahir: No no this is not right. Please Tuanku, Ampun Tuanku. I will never ever cross my
boundaries to your realm. Your highness, please. I would not do such shame to my family! Admiral
Cheng Dong, Please help!
Sultan: Cheng Dong? Anything? Hmm what about this. If your Sultan wants you to do something
that would bring shame to your family, who will you choose? Your family or your Kingdom?
Tun Mutahir: I believe that I will always follow you my King, even when everything falls, my loyalty
will always be with you.
Sultan goes to Tun Mutahir
Sultan: Tun Mutahir, an admirable Bendahara, who will always take responsibility for his actions,
even when he is at his last breath.
Tun Mutahir: What do you mean Your. High Ness.
Tun Mutahir fell with blood on the floor. Tun Mutahirs wife scream so loud that everyone in
the castle could hear.
Mak: Tuanku! If this is what you call as benevolent and daulat, I shall take your durhaka! I curse you
to your seventh generation that you will lay your hands off any Kingdoms!
Sultan Mahmud: Oh really? Then take that Keris, kill yourself to prove your curse to me! You know
as a sultan, that means nothing right?
Mak: Ali, you take care of Fatimah. Let this be a day that remembers this Sultans cruelty and how
Daulat is abused. Our dignity as a family shall remain strong as it is. By my passing (Stab herself).
Curse you, Sultan!
Tun Ali goes to both bodies.
Tun Ali: They were family. Tun Mutahir was like a father to me. You. ALL OF YOU. Why are you so
ignorant! Is this how the daulat protect us?
Raja Mendeliar: yes it protects us from your treasonous so called father.
Sultan: Tun Ali, I also find killing him, distasteful. But a call has to be made to make sure people
understand that there is a big line between sitting here on this throne and being down there, drenched
in blood. I know his last answer was just to save his life. He would not betray his family. How can I
trust a man who speaks different tongue from mind? I find it untrustworthy.
Tun Ali: Ampun Tuanku, Raja Mendeliar, please respect the passing of Datuk Bendahara.
11

Raja Mendeliar: Treasonous Datuk Bendahara! Who did nothing but ruining the reputation of Malacca
to be an even greater empire!!
Everyone agrees. Tun Fatimah sits still. Eyes cold as stone. Looking at disbelieved.
Tun Ali: If this is treasonous, please, allow me to drop all my titles and entitlements to Kingdom of
Malacca. Let me be a wanderer and sail across the sea. Let me bury my family with respect. Daulat
Tuanku.
Raja Mendeliar: And let you get away with telling stories to foreign lands about our internal affairs?
You are too important to leave, Tun Ali.
Tun Ali: Then what do you want, Your Highness. I do not believe in your Daulat anymore.
Raja Mendeliar: Mind your words, young man. You do not want to fall in line with those lying on the
floor before you.
Sultan: I pardon your harsh words. Tun Ali. You should be thankful to Tun Fatimah because you are
her betrothed. Consider this as a warning.
Tun Ali: Ampun Tuanku beribu ribu ampun. Please let me go.
Raja Mendeliar: Not a chance.
Tun Ali takes off Keris and run amok in Balai rung seri.
Sultan: You fool! Guards, hold his insufferable fool. We will deal with him later.
Tun Ali fights the guard. Due to he ran amok so fast, one of guards spear struck into his chest.
Tun Fatimah: ALI!
Tun Ali: Run, Fatimah. Run!
Tun Ali drew his last breath.
Raja Mendeliar: I believe we have cleaned up some treasonous fools around Malacca. Anyone else
would like to join the fray?
Everyone mutters and agrees in silence.
Raja Mendeliar: Then let us clear this place.
Everyone clears except for Sultan and Tun Fatimah.
Tun Fatimah: (emotionless)Tuanku, what would you want from me Tuanku Sultan? For all my family
members are gone.
Sultan: Tun Fatimah, no it is not. For you, shall take the role as the third Queen of Malacca. I hope
that would relieve your wounds for having to see all that just now. I hope you do understand the
severity of treasons.

12

Tun Fatimah: (Emotionless) Completely, Tuanku. Daulat Tuanku. Thank you for your gracious act
and kind heart. I shall carry that role wholeheartedly and I hope that I will be able to repay for my
familys sin.
Sultan: No sins whatsoever Fatimah. They are not yours to carry. You shall be under my protection at
all times.
Sultan leaves his throne.
Light dims to Fatimah. She is crying.
Tun Fatimah: DAULATT TUANKU!
Lights off

ACT 5 - FINALE
Sounds of canon, fireguns and people killing each other. Portuguese attacks on Malacca has
finally arrive.
Lights on.
Rui di Araujo is held captive in the dark room. Si Kitol enters hastily to untie Rui.
Rui di Araujo: Has the Portuguese breach the gate of Malacca?
Kitol: Not yet I am afraid. Why? Any problems with your map?
Rui di Araujo: I was not sure if that is what you want! I just want to get out of here please. I am done
with all these games.
Kitol: Relax. It is exactly like how we wanted it to happen. Malacca is now free from that ruthless
Sultans clutches. Want to be the first person to feel the victory air? Come on lets get out of here.
Admiral Cheng Dong: Guards! Arrest the traitors!
Guards surrounded the two of them. Admiral push them to talk.
Admiral: I knew that you are the one that carries the most secret around here, Kitol. I know your
games. I know that you are the one that is responsible behind Tun Mutahirs death. That will clear so
much barrier that you will have if he is still by the side of Sultan. But what makes me really interested
in your story is why? Whats in it for you.
Kitol: Whats in it for me? I believe you already have the answer, Admiral. Or should I say, No proof,
No talk!
Admiral: Well what about the day that Tun Fatimah saved Lopes de Sequiera, you were the one that
told her about her fathers deed? Shall I say, exaggerated? You said something that made her what she
was on the day of her fathers punishment. I must say I was fazed by her reaction to her family but it
seems that she knew something that made her knew what was coming. As a person of all access
especially to Tun Mutahirs family, Kitol, you have really accomplished something over there.

Kitol: Still no proof.

Admiral: Or should I also mention about how this thing happened? Where Rui was captured in god
knows what dungeon here? Did anyone even know he was here at first? Why is he so important? Oh!
Cartographer! Map maker! Yes! This boy has all the knowledge to all Malacca roads and he has
connections in India to call upon Portuguese fleet and wage their long awaited war against us. Why
are you here? Why did you untie him? Any plans for him?
Kitol: I was here to get some woods for Tun Fatimah, our queens kitchen. I think the Sultan would be
very pissed to know you are delaying her request.
Admiral: Why untie him?
Kitol: Did I? I do not remember doing that.
Admiral: Or should I say that I have mentioned to Raja Mendeliar about your plans to cut all ties with
him about all these deals and have him to report to Sultan to find you? Let sultan knows how you
played him over? That you use Tun Fatimahs choice over Tun Ali as a weapon to play with Sultans
heart? Oh not to mention, you were the one that carried out the order to capture our friend, Rui de
Araujo over here? And severely hurt Lopes de Sequiera which I do not even know whether he lives or
dies?
Kitol: I will never kill a person! He is alive! I had Tun Fatimah to. (Sudden silence)
Admiral: Ah! See? The snake spouted its venom right in the spot.
Rui tried to tackle Kitol. Rui kicked Kitol.
Rui: (Angry) It was you all along! Why are you playing us? You! You almost had me and Sir Lopes
killed! You put me in this dungeon! You told me you were going to help once I finish the map
according to your need. But you were the one that put me in here first! You devil! You used all of us!
Admiral: Anything to say Kitol before I hand you over to Sultan? Would be fun to see what that
someone would say.
Kitol: Say? (laugh contently) Here me out. You do not know me! I have been shunned, thrashed,
belittled by the likes of you. Shame. What do you know of SHAME? You ignorant fool. You never
know how hard to be in the middle of everything. People will always come looking. For what? To get
to do something. Once it is done, all happy. But when it is not? I WILL BE THE ONE TO PUT THE
BLAME ON! People say knowledge is power. No they are wrong! Having too much knowledge
brought me to nothing but hatred. Want to help me? Take all these knowledge away and take my
HATRED AWAY!
Admiral: Guard, bring Kitol to custody. As for you Rui di Araujo, you can go. Never look back to this
land. Ever again.
Rui off stage.
Admiral: I must inform the Sultan about this. There is another person that he needs to beware of.

Sultans retreat to center stage with Raja Mendeliar and Tun Fatimah. Guards were trying to
fight Portuguese they were defeated. Tun Fatimah took the action to fight the Portuguese soldier
and she won. But afterwards, she finish it by honing her keris to Sultans neck.
Raja Mendeliar: What is this Tun Fatimah!
Tun Fatimah: I want out. I want to disappear. This land has nothing to give anymore. All our dignities
and prosperity has been sacked. Thanks to all of you, we are left with nothing. Look what you have
done with your power, Sultan. Now where is your Daulat?
Raja Mendeliar: You
Sultan: I know Fatimah. I know. I have been nothing but a fool, a fool for you. I will do anything for
you, even if it means every wealth in this country Fatimah. Fatimah, please stop this and get away
with me. We still have a kingdom in Johor. Come along Fatimah.
Tun Fatimah: Not a step. I have nothing to lose. You have taken everything from me. Look around
Tuanku. No one from Chitty communities is here to help. Javanese too. Together with unity we could
win this war. But you chose to stab my father and leave him to die. That sparks hatred dont you
think? The time where I could use your mercy and sympathy to my family, you did not give even a
shred of it. Now you see, you reap what you sow.
Tun Fatimah takes her steps away from Sultan.
Tun Fatimah: Never look for me for my name shall have its full stop at this moment from History. Not
ever Sultan. Daulat Tuanku!
Tun Fatimah leaves the stage.
Sultan: (anger in frustration) This is because of you! You told me I will get her if I put an end to Tun
Mutahirs life. You said she is the key to better Malacca! I should have never put my trust on you
(while clenching on Raja Mendeliars collar)
Raja Mendeliar: My my, ampun Tuanku (whist releasing the grip). I have not taken into account how
ignorant are you to your surroundings. Or have you forgotten that all your information is only taken
after being through your ministers? How can you expect you will get anything from it? There must be
someone that is changing stories around here. Ampun Tuanku. Let us go on full retreat and then we
talk about spies among your people, my King.
Admiral Cheng Dong comes in with Kitol
Admiral: You mean you? Raja Mendeliar, enough with games, we know your true intention.
Sultan: Admiral, what is the meaning of this.
Admiral: This young man has something to say.
Raja Mendeliar walks closely to kitol.
Admiral: (hone his sword) Back off Raja mendeliar or you will meet your end now. Speak now Kitol.
End this.

15

Kitol: I I have something to say Tuanku. Ampun Tuanku. All the things that happened, all the
occasions from public unrests to Portuguese infiltration are all Raja Mendeliars doing my King.
(Clenching while crying)
Raja mendeliar: You were supposed to be dead before talking! This should not happen. You will pay
for this Kitol. You will!
Sultan: Is this true, Raja Mendeliar?
Suddenly, Kitol grabs Sultans hand and took His majestys keris to his chest, bleeding himself
to death.
Sultan: I.. I.. dont understand why. Why are you doing this to us Raja Mendeliar. WHY?
Raja Mendeliar calls Portuguese soldiers to come in and protect him.
Raja Mendeliar: Because you know nothing of this Kingdom, Sultan Mahmud Syah. You know
nothing of what happened inside out of your Kingdom. Like I said, you are relying too much on your
ministers. You said we are a Daulat Kingdom. How can we thrive to be as such if we have a leader
that cant even get the people stories properly? You need to learn, Sultan. But not by damaging this
Kingdom any further. It is time for me to break the chain and provide Malacca with new rule, under
the rule of the best thinker, despite of their lineage.
Sultan: You &*!^!&*^
Raja Mendeliar: Hold you horses, Sultan. We do not want to have another bloodbath, right? Especially
not with the royal ones.
Cheng Dong: (Protects Sultan) retreat Tuanku.
Sultan: I was wrong Cheng Dong, about everything. How could I let this happen! What have I done
wrong!
Cheng Dong: We can do this later. But now it is time for us to retreat.
Raja Ahmad comes in with his troops.
Raja Ahmad: Ampun Ayahanda. Time for us to go now.
Sultan: You shall regret this Raja mendeliar.
Malaccan troop went off stage. Leaving Raja Mendeliar and Portuguese Troops on stage.
Raja Mendeliar: Indeed, a successful one.
Alfonso de Alburqueque comes on stage.
Alfonso: well well if it is a foreign friend, who helped us take over this bountiful land. Raja
mendeliar, thank you for your service.
Raja mendeliar: Alfonso de Alburqueque. This means that you have taken over all areas and quarters
in Malacca. Congratulations! Now when are we going to discuss about that deal that we had?
Alfonso: Oh about that land what deal was that again?
16

Raja Mendeliar: Well, you said we could.

(BAM)
Alfonso shot Raja Mendeliar on this head.
Alfonso: Gentlemen, never trust enemy of an enemy.
Curtain closes as lights off
THE END
That was how Daulat met its doom. It takes a lot of force to build a nation but it takes few bad
characters, ignorant individuals and gullible souls to ruin this resilient Kingdom. However,
Daulat is always in the heart and mind of everyone. It is a symbol of strength, prosperity, unity
and protection against people that seeks harmony in their nation. Everyone should carry Daulat
as a signification of power to help others. May Daulat brings us back to the glory that we once
had. May we be protected from all the influences to abuse Daulat. Daulat Tuanku.
