2. The Sewage Treatment Plant (STP)
This plant consists of the following major process tanks and chambers;
a. Aeration Tank
b. Settling Tank
c. Sludge Holding Tank
d. Inlet and course screen chamber
e. Pump sump
f. Fine screen chamber
3. Equipments
Major equipments required for the system functionality as follow;
a. Air blowers and air diffusers
b. Raw sewage pumps
c. Waste and transfer pumps
4. Piping & Electrical Works

5. Other Amenities
A complete STP shall have the following;
a. A control house
b. Sludge drying beds, where applicable
c. Water tap supply
d. Brick wall fencing and gates
e. Access road
6. The Process (Briefly)
a. Long hydraulic retention time, 18-24 hours, thus allows the plant to operate
effectively over widely varying flow and waste loadings.
b. It is mixed with aerobic microorganism that is present in the tanks for
biological degradation of organic compounds.
c. It is then flow into settling tank for solids and liquor separation.
d. Treated effluent is then flow over the weir and discharged to the receiving
drain.
This plant can be operated by PLC or manual mode.
7. Effluent Quality
The effluent discharge shall comply with Standard A in accordance to the Third
Schedule of the Environmental Quality (Sewage & Industrial Effluents)
Regulations, 1979
