FEAR

Written by: Jenny Calvert

Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your
dwelling, there shall be no evil befall you, neither shall any plague come near your
tent; for He shall give His angels charge over you to guard you in all your ways.
They shall bear you up in their hands. Psalms 91:9-12 (MEV)
Then Elisha prayed and said, Lord, I ask you, open my servants eyes so that he
can see. The Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and the servant saw the
mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire. They were all around Elisha. 2 Kings
6:15-17 (ERV)
I had never felt fear the way I felt it that night. I was alone at a beach house, loaned
to my husband and me by some friends for the weekend. I had gone the night
before, and my husband would be joining me the next day. Because it was a beach
home, it was built on stilts. I had noticed when I drove up to the house that there
was a tall ladder leaning against the outside wall. I had just assumed that the
owners had been doing some work.
The evening went well and it was nice having some quiet time with the Lord. Then I
turned in for the night. I woke with a start in the middle of the night when I heard a
crashing sound at my window. I turned on the lights, the television, and the radio. I
could feel the presence of evil. My husband was too far away, and because it was
off season no one was in the area. It was so far away from anything that I knew
calling the police would be useless. My heart was racing and I knew I was in trouble.
I started praying. I asked God to surround the house with His army of angels to be

seen by the enemy. I asked for His presence, protection and His peace. After a while,
my heart began to slow and I was beginning to feel His calm.
I eventually went outside and down the stairway to take a look. No one was there,
but the ladder was gone. When I called the owners the next day, they told me they
did not even own a ladder and no work was being done. Someone had been up to
something. I dont know if God actually sent His angels, but I do believe that He
provided protection from the one lurking outside my window taking the ladder that
night. I admit that I experienced panic, but I also experienced God with me, casting
out all fear and reminding me that I was never really alone in that house at all.
Dear Lord,
Thank you for providing peace and protection. You told us, Dont be afraid of those
who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. But Lord, at times we still
are scared. Help us to turn to you, not only in times of trouble, but in all times.
In Your Name,
Amen
