32. Discuss the methods of temperature control for resistance oven or furnace with
neat diagram.
33. A 30 KW, 3 phases, 400 V resistance ovens is employ nickel chrome strip
0.025cm thick for the 3- phase star connected heating elements. If the wire
temperature is to be 1100C and that of charge is to be 700C. Estimate a suitable
width for the strip. Assume radiating efficiency as 0.6 and emissivity as 0.9, the
specific resistance of Nichrome alloy is 1.0310-6 ohm-m. State any assumption
made.
34. A 3-phase arc furnace is used to melt 8 tonne steel in 1hour36 mins. Estimate the
average input power to the furnace if the over all efficiency is 60%. The current
input is 8000A with the above KW input. The resistance and reactance of furnace
(including transformer) are 0.004 and 0.006, respectively. Estimate arc voltage,
power factor and total KVA taken from power supply. Specific heat of steel is
444.4K/kg/0C. Latent heat of fusion of steel is 37.25KJ/kg. Melting and initial
