My Favorite Band

Everyone has their favorite bands. Some like mainstream bands such as One
Direction or The Vamps, while some enjoy classics like Fall Out Boy and Blink-182. For
people like me, we enjoy local bands. However, these bands arent just typical Pinoy
serenading bands. My favorite band is a band called Up Dharma Down.

Up Dharma Down is a local band with an experimental genre mostly influenced

with soul, punk, and electronic tunes. It was formed in 2004 in Manila, Philippines. They
are signed under independent record label Terno Recordings. Their members include
Armi Millare (lead singer), Carlos Tanada (lead guitarist), Ean Mayor (drummer), and
Paul Yap (bassist). Their discography contains three LPs, starting with Fragmented in
2006, Bipolar in 2008, and Capacities in 2012. They were featured in foreign countries
being notable for their unique melody and rhythms. Up Dharma Down was also featured
in the July 2007 issue of the Time Magazine. They have also been recognized by Paul
Buchanan of The Blue Nile, Curt Smith of Tears for Fears, and Tim Bowness of No-Man.
They have also been featured in some concerts by classic rock bands such as Red Hot
Chili Peppers, Incubus, Bloc Party, The XX, Tegan and Sara, Tahiti 80, and Cut Copy.
Their band is also known in Japan and has also created a Japanese version of one of
their songs, Luna. Some of their popular songs include Oo, Tadhana, Indak, Sana, and
Luna; all having the same nature about modern-day Filipino love, Pinoy Millennial life
situations, and the like.

Every band is good in their own ways. For an instance, Fall Out Boy is good in
creating comfort songs, as well as Coldplay, and Panic! At The Disco. It just happens so
that I find Up Dharma Down the most soothing band to listen to at all times, even when
Im happy, sad, or just plain bored. Theres nothing wrong with listening to other kinds of
music because it actually helps widen and expand your range of taste in music. What
matters most is that you enjoy what youre listening to, and you respect what others
listen to as well.
