Introduction

Create and utilize learning contents according to your


own needs for each course.

1.1 Authoring
The Authoring Tool enables users to edit and create various media, such as video,
audio, and e-Book, to conform to purpose and duration of ones learning curriculum.

1.2 Preview & Viewer


The Authoring Tool offers preview and viewer functions. The preview displays
contents in the making, allowing users to examine authoring process, and the viewer
opens contents created and/or other registered external contents for examination.

The Authoring Tool is composed of 6 parts; Top Menu, Resource Area, Canvas,
Timeline, Video Area, and Table of Contents.

Top Menu
Resource Area

Description
Select tabs in the menu to run.
Display resources imported from the LCMS. Resources are divided into video,
audio, document, image, quiz and subtitle.

Canvas

Display each resource items of the contents to be viewed by students.

Video Area

Display available video(s) only of the contents to be viewed by students.

Table of Contents

Display the table of contents as the summarized list of learning stages.

Timeline Area

Display resources used in a content according to the timeline.

2.1.1 Top Menu


The Top Menu is composed of 3 sub-menus: File, Edit and Publish. Users can open,
save and/or preview the contents from the File menu, edit or import resources from
the LCMS and add subtitles from the Edit menu. And Lastly, to distribute the
contents to use in learning, Publish menu is used.

2.1.2 Resource Area


The Resource Area displays resources available in the LCMS. The resource types are
divided into video, audio, document, image and quiz type to be used to create a
content. Users can also add or edit subtitles to the desired resource.

Description
Display video resources such as avi, wmv, mkv, and mp4.
Display audio resources such as mp3, wav.
Display document resources such as doc, ppt, pdf.
Display image resources such as jpg, png, tif.

Open all the learning resources except subtitles to add to the Resource Area.
Add subtitles to the Resource Area.

2.1.3 Canvas
Canvas displays resource items such as documents, image, subtitle, and offers
Preview and the Viewer function.

2.1.4 Video Area


Video Area is located on the right of the canvas, and displays any video that has
been added to the Resource Area. Video resources can be added as a visual aid for
better understanding of the learning contents.

2.1.5 Table of Contents


Table of Contents displays list of the learning contents in the order of timeline. By
clicking the list title, users can navigate the corresponding page within the content
currently playing.

2.1.6 Timeline Area


Timeline displays all resources currently opened, in the order of time played. The
Timeline is composed of quiz, index, video, audio, and multi-layers of resources, and
users can adjust duration of each resource.

Indicates the length of time per each cell.

Default timeline is composed of 12 layers, and layers are divided according to the
type of resources added as below:

Description
Display quiz included in the learning contents.
Once the quiz starts, the contents will stop playing until the quiz is complete.

Time

Display the duration of learning contents.

Index

Display the table of contents.

Video

Display video included in the learning contents.

Audio

Display audio included in the learning contents.


Other resources excluding ones above will be added to Layers. If multiple resources

Layer 1 ~ 7

are present at the same time, the resource located below and with the higher number
of Layer will appear in the front of the Canvas.

Basic Usage

Basic Usage of the Authoring Tool


3.1 Import/Delete Resource
Importing Resources From LCMS
Aside from subtitles, the Authoring Tool uses learning resources from the LCMS to
create learning contents. Resources like video, audio, document, image and quiz can
be imported to Authoring Tool from the LCMS.
To import resources from the LCMS, click the resource +
located in the
Resource area. Once clicked, the Resource List window of LCMS will appear.
LCMS Resource List window contains all the resources available in the LCMS such as
video, audio, document, image, quiz, and etc., and users can search and select
various resources to be used in the learning contents.
The resources can also be previewed before selecting. Once desired resources are
found, select the resources by checking the boxes, click select, and then click submit.
All the selected resources will be automatically imported to the Authoring Tools
Resource area.

Click the + icon located in the resource menu bar in the Resource
Area to open the Resource List window.

Select the resources to import by checking the box next to the resource
title.

Click the Select button to confirm the resource selections.

Selected resources are displayed.

Click the Submit button to import resources.

Imported resources are displayed.

Delete Resource
To delete any unwanted resources, right click the resource title, and click the Delete
Resource button.

Add Subtitles
To add texts to documents and/or videos, use the Subtitle menu.
To add subtitles, click the subtitle +
located in the Resource Area to display Add
Subtitle window. Enter the texts on the black space, and click Ok button to save. The
saved texts will be displayed under the subtitle
of the Resource Area.
Once the subtitle is added to the Resource Area, drag the subtitle to use to the
Canvas, then the subtitle will automatically added to the timeline.

Click the + icon located next to the Subtitle in the Resource Area to
open the Add Subtitle window.

Enter texts to be displayed on the contents.

Click the Ok button to add texts to the Resource Area.

Edit/Delete Subtitle
To edit subtitle, right click the subtitle to edit, then the subtitle menu will be opened.
Click the Config. Resource Properties button to open the subtitle window. Edit the
texts and click OK button to save.

To delete subtitle, right click the subtitle to delete, then the subtitle menu will be
opened. And click the Delete Resource.
If any resources, including subtitles, are used in the Canvas, then they cannot be
deleted.

3.2 Using Canvas


Change Canvas Background Color
To change the Background color of the Canvas, Click the Edit button located in the
Top Menu and select Canvas Background Color. You can also right click anywhere in
the Canvas to open the menu to select a desired Canvas Background Color. Once the
Canvas Background menu is selected, color palette will appear and you can change
the background color.
Choose the desired color to change and click the OK button. The changed
background color will be saved.

to display the menu, and click Canvas Background Color.

Select the desired color.

Click OK button to apply change.

Add/Delete Resource to Canvas


To add resource to the Canvas, select the resource to add from the Resource Area,
hold the left click and drag and drop the resource to the Canvas.

Hold the left click and drag the resource to Canvas and drop.

To delete resources from the Canvas, select the resource to delete and press the
delete key on your keyboard. You can also right click the resource and click the
Delete button.

Select the resource to delete, and press delete key.

Right click the resource and click the Delete button.

Move/Resize Resources in Canvas


Resources added to the Canvas can be moved and/or resized depending on the
resource type.
To move the resource, select the resource to move, and drag the resource to the
desired area.

To resize the resource, click the resource so the 8 points appear on the border of the
resource. Use the points accordingly to resize the resource. Each point has a
different direction to resize the resource.

Configure Resource Properties in Canvas


All the resources added to the Canvas have their own properties. You can configure
the resource properties in detail to conform to the learning contents.
To view the Resource properties, first select the resource and right click the title to
open the menu.
Click the Properties from the Menu to view the properties on the selected resource.

3.3 Using Video


Add/Delete Video Resource
To add video resource, select the resource to add from the Resource Area, and drag
and drop the resource to the Video Area, located next to the Canvas.

To delete video resource from the Video Area, select the video to delete and press
the delete key, or right click the resource to select the Delete button.

Configure Video Resource Properties


All the video resources have their own properties. You can configure the video
properties in details to conform to the learning contents.
To view the video properties, first select the video , open the video by dragging it to
the Video Area, and right click the video screen to open the menu.
Click the Properties from the menu to view the video properties.

3.4 Using Table of Contents


Add/Delete Table of Contents
Table of contents offers users to arrange all the resources used in order of timeline.
To add table of contents, click the
button located below the Video
Area to open the 'Add Table of Contents' window. Enter the title, and click the 'OK'
button.
Once the Table of contents has been added, the timeline will automatically be
created, allowing the users to navigate the contents. Users can adjust the time
duration of each resource on timeline.

Enter the Table of Contents title.

Click OK button to save the title.

To delete from table of contents, select the title to delete and press the delete key,
or right click the resource to select the Delete button.

Configure Table of Contents Properties


All the resources included in the table of contents contain timeline properties, Begin
time and End time. The timeline properties can be adjusted.
To view the properties, first select the table of contents title and right click it to
open the menu.
Click the 'Properties' from the menu to view and configure.

3.5 Using Timeline


Add Resource to Timeline
Timeline is a function to adjust and manage the duration of all the resources. Once
resources are added to the Canvas, Video, and/or Table of Contents, are
automatically added to the Timeline as well.
To manually add resource to the Timeline, select the resource to add from the
Resource Area and drag and drop the resource in the Timeline Area.

When dragging and dropping the resource, mouse cursor will indicate if the
resource is available to be added to the timeline.

Delete Resource from the Timeline


To delete resource from the Timeline, select the title to delete and press the delete
key, or right click the resource to select the Delete button.

Move/Resize Timeline
Resources can be moved and/or resized according to the resource type.
By moving the resource in Timeline, will change the time resource starts playing.
Resizing resource will change the duration of the resource.
To move the resource in Timeline, simply drag and drop the resource to the desired
point within the Timeline Area.
The changed begin time and end time will be displayed when resource is moved, and
if multiple resources are present at the same time, resource located below with the
higher number of Layer will appear in the front of the Canvas.

To resize the resource, click the resource in the Timeline. Adjust only the length of
the resource using two points appeared on the left and right border as the
screenshot below. The changed time will be displayed on the Timeline Area as the
resource resizes.

Configure Timeline Properties


All the resources included in the Timeline contain their own properties. You can
configure the properties in details to conform to the learning contents.
To view the Resource properties, first select the resource and right click the title to
open the menu.
Click the Properties from the Menu to view the resource properties.

.The properties can be divided into 4 different types: Resource Information, Stage
Properties, Timeline Properties, and Subtitle Properties, and details on each
property type are explained below.

Basic information about the resource. These cannot be edited.

Size and the location of the resource displayed in the Canvas.

Timeline Properties

Resource's location in the Timeline and its layer information.

Subtitle information.

Change Timeline Cell


Each cell in the Timeline area represent time in seconds. Users can choose from 1, 3,
10, or 20 seconds, depending on their preferences.
Click the
located on the right side of the Timeline Area to open the
menu. Select the desired type (seconds/cell) you wish to use and menu will close.

The resource size displayed on the Timeline will automatically change according to
the time per cell.

and Viewer.
4.1 Screen Configuration and information
Preview and Viewer displays contents created from the Authoring Tool, and are
composed of 4 sections; Canvas, Video Area, Table of Contents and Control Area.
The Canvas, Video Area and Table of Contents are used to view the contents, and
the Control Area is used to operate and manage the Preview and Viewer.

The canvas is the main screen to display the learning contents. Video Area is located
on the top right of the screen, and is used as a visual aid for better understanding of
the learning contents. The Table of Contents displays resources in the order of the
timeline and indicates the current phase within the learning contents playing.

4.2 Using Preview & Viewer


The Control Area can play, pause, convert screen, and control volume of the Preview
and the Viewer.
When in Viewer mode, to prevent skipping the learning contents, a control panel
function moving the playback position will be limited.

Control

Description
Plays the learning contents.

Pauses the learning contents currently playing.

Displays the current time of the learning contents.


Displays overall progress status of the learning contents. When in preview
mode, users can adjust the playback position, but not in the Viewer mode.
Controls volume of the learning contents.

Switches the location of the Canvas and the Video screen.
