OF THE NATIONAL JUNIOR BETA CLUB 2016-2017 - INFORMATION SHEET What is the BETA CLUB? The National Junior Beta Club is a student honor society that recognizes high academic achievement, promotes excellent character and social responsibility, encourages service to others, and fosters leadership skills. Who qualifies for membership in the RCMS JUNIOR BETA CLUB? The qualifications for membership on the part of the student shall be: (a) worthy, moral and ethical character, (b) good mentality, (c) creditable achievement, and (d) commendable attitude. Students must be willing to perform service tasks both in and out of school. What are the requirements of membership? Students must be willing to perform a minimum of 10 service hours each semester, maintain a grade average of 93% or higher, and have a clean discipline record. All meetings are mandatory. Absences that will be excused with a note include, but are not limited to, doctors appointment, participation in an athletic event, chorus performance, or drama production. What are the dues for members? There is a one-time national fee of $15. Local dues are payable at the beginning of each year of membership and are used to pay for club expenses during the year. Robert E. Cashion Elementary School Chapter of The National Junior Beta Clubs dues is $15 per year. If a student does not meet the requirements at the time of initial application, the fee will be returned. Once a student is inducted into the Junior Beta Club, no refund will be given. You may wish to explore the National Beta Club website at www.betaclub.org to learn more about the benefits that are included in the induction fee. How do I apply for membership? If your report card from the 1st and 2nd 9 Weeks reflects a 93% or higher average, and you desire to fulfill the Beta Clubs participation and service requirements, you are to submit the required membership application packet. Fifth Graders cannot join until after the 2nd 9 Weeks is over, but you can go ahead and apply during the 2nd 9 Weeks. Deadline to apply is Wednesday, January 25th. You must turn your application in to Mrs. Jeffcoat. How will I know I have been accepted into the Beta Club? Invitations for accepted students will be distributed on or before Tuesday, January 31 st, 2017. After invitations are distributed, please return your induction sheet and dues to Mrs. Jeffcoat between February 1 st and February 3rd. Our induction ceremony date and time will be determined at a later time.
