Essay 1: What is Romantic?
For this essay, I chose to interview three people: Jonathan (24), Steve (57) and Emily
(23). I have asked them each what the most romantic event theyve experienced, and what
made that event so memorable.
Beginning with Emily, who is 23 years old, and is married. She described to me what her
most romantic event was. It was shortly after she had just gotten married, and shared intimate
time with her husband. She noted how sweet it was and how overcome with love she was. To
Emily, this was the most romantic event shed ever experienced. What makes it so memorable,
is how intense the emotions that she felt, she will always remember.
Next, I spoke with Jonathan. He is married and has one child, and another on the way.
He explained the romantic event that he most remembers is the first time that he saw his wife,
Angela. When he saw her and met her for the first time he knew that was who he wanted to
marry. This was so memorable to him because he knew right there and then that he was going
to marry her.
Third, is Steve, who is married, is a father as well as a grandfather. When I asked him
what the most memorable event he ever had, he responded that is was probably his wedding
night. When I further asked him what made that so memorable, he chose not to answer as to
him, this was personal, and so special to him that he wanted to keep to himself.
As I went through these answers and compared and contrasted, I feel that I was able to
get very different takes on what others consider romantic. For example, Emilys was very
emotional. Jonathans was just that first sight, and Steve wanted to keep it to himself.
As for me, the most romantic event Ive experienced was the day that I proposed to my
beautiful wife. For me, it was romantic and memorable because I took a lot of time to plan it out,
and I made sure that she would be surprised. The moment that I asked her, she fell down to her
knees and hugged me crying. In turn this made me cry, and I truly felt romance and love
between the two of us.
