Her House on Mango Street
Bonnie, a female criminal, writes the poem, Bonnie & Clyde, with the words of how
women are treated during the great depression, Where the women are kin; and the men are
men This quote relates to The House on Mango Street because both of the female in each
narrative in the book explain how men treat the women. In the book, The House on Mango
Street, Esperanza writes about how badly the females rights that live on Mango Street are
treated in her own worlds. Throughout the story, Cisneros recapitulates the central idea is to
always remember where you came from by using bildungsroman, flashback, and foreseeing.
In the first citing, you could see that Cisneros uses bildungsroman to describe what
Esperanza feels about living on Mango Street by using bildungsroman. In the novel, one of the
three sisters says to Esperanza, You will always be Esperanza. You will always be Mango
Street. You can't erase what you know. You can't forget who you are, (105). The statement is
bildungsroman because it describes Esperanza the things that Esperanza tries to change over
the years that she lives on Mango Street. This quote shows that the three sisters know about
Esperanza wanting to change who she is. This point is noteworthy because the three sisters are
telling Esperanza to not forget that she once lived on Mango Street. In the next quote you can
see another form of this quote that explains the central idea.
In the next citation you can see that Esperanza starts to remember a flashback that
happen years ago by using flashbacks. That quote is, We didnt always live on Mango Street.
Before that we lived on Loomis on the third floor, and before that we lived on Keeler. Before
Keeler it was Paulina, but what I remember the most is living on Mango street, sad red house,

the house I belong but do not belong to (109-110). The reason why this quote are flashbacks is
that she is remembering where she was coming from before she lived on Mango Street. This
quote means that the only house that Esperanza will always remember is the house on Mango
Street. By examining this evidence, Esperanza is knowing where she came from and how it
affects her. In the last quote you can see that she is knowing the facts that where she can from,
but that nothing can be changed.
In the last quote from the book The House on Mango Street explains what is Esperanza
is going to do after she leaves the house on Mango Street. In contract, one last statement writes
by using foreshadowing, They will not know I have gone away to come back. For the ones I left
behind. For the ones who cannot out. (110). Esperanza uses foreshadowing by trying what
would Esperanza do in the future. This quote means that Esperanza realizes what she is going
to do to help all the females that live on Mango Street after leaving the red house. The quote
matters because, Esperanza knows that she can not forget living on Mango Street seeing all the
things that happened to the females there. All the three quotes (bildungsroman, flashback, and
foreshadowing) explains the central idea that is to always remember where you came from the
book The House on Mango Street.
The central idea of The House on Mango Street is that to remember where you came
from. From the three evidence cited from the book contains bildungsroman, flashback, and
foreseeing. Why is it relatable to the reader? Esperanza has problems about the difficulty of
living in an environment that she doesnt like such as many people do all around the world.
