Classroom Learning Profile based on observations and data

Use readings and EDUC 202 self-reflection assignments from the past to describe your placement class:
Nieto & Bode; Understanding Culture Brief; Hoeksema; Pearson 202 custom textbook; Barringer, Pohlman, & Robinson
All come from a similar culture that is in the neighborhood around them. Very diverse with lots of
Hispanic features in language, and food. Music seems to be a lot of new hip-hop and rap.
Culture

Majority Hispanic and African-American. No Caucasian or Asian students.

Social SystemsPeers & Family

Moral, Spiritual, and

Faith Development

Seem to have very diverse social systems. Know a few students with single parents and a few with
divorced parents and messy living situations. Seem to all be pretty interconnected and live in a similar
area. Lots of the students have siblings and cousins at Ceaser Chavez as well.

Hard to gauge as it is a public school. Had one student asked if I went to church because he did but
nothing more in depth than that.

Lots of students struggle with attention span and short term memory. Often times instructions have to
be repeated multiple times and students have to be constantly reminded of things.
Attention & Memory

Class is taught in all English but 7 learners are also fluid in Spanish. There are also many students who
speak in African-American street vernacular but on papers write in standard academic English.
Language

Motor &
Spatial/Sequential
Ordering

Higher Order Thinking

Motor is often shaky as many students lose focus on tasks and get worn out easily. Sequential ordering
is all over the board. When we do comprehension problems that call on ordering of things in a story
some students understand it fully and others do not have a clue.

Varies as some students are farther than other students. A select few can process at a high level, but
most are much lower.

A few students are ADD or ADHD. One student is a selective mute as well.
