OBJECTIVE /SCOPE
Our task is to design a Heat Exchanger that would recover the waste heat from
the exhaust gases of a Thermal Oil Heater (Artistic Milliners AM-2 Unit) that
provides hot oil to the Stenter Machine, whose task is to maintain the width and
length of the fabric. The oil heater utilizes Natural Gas as its fuel. The average
exhaust temperature is around 315 0C, with peak temperature value of 400 0C.
The hot water generated using the heat exchanger will be provided to the
washing facility of the Industry. The temperature required for washing is around
70 0C and daily consumption is about 56,000 Gallons (224,000 liters) per day.
Alternatively, the Heat Exchanger can also be used to pre-heat the combustion
air to the oil heater, resulting in an increase in burner/combustion efficiency. By
doing this Natural gas consumption would decrease as the inlet air would be at a
higher temperature (250 0C) before combustion.

UTILIZATION
Pakistan is the worlds 4th largest producer of cotton and 3rd largest consumer.
Textile Industry contribute over 60% to the countrys total merchandise
consumer, contributing 8.5% to the country`s GDP.
The textile industry accounts for a 17% share in total
industrial energy consumption, utilizing electricity and
natural gas as its main energy sources. Of the total
energy consumption of the sector, 82% is in the form of
natural gas and 16% is electricity supplied by public
utilities. As of 2013, 521 mills are operating in the
country, the majority of which are located in the
provinces of Sindh and Punjab.
Our Project would decrease the energy consumption of the Industry and would
be beneficial Financially to the Industry and Environmentally to the Globe.

EXPECTED

OUTPUTS

PROJECT SUMMARY
Our project follows the global trend of Energy Conservation and
Environment Protection. The project will significantly reduce the
Energy Consumption, Carbon Footprint and Green-House Gas emissions of the
Industry. In doing so we will protect the environment and will also reduce the cost
of energy associated with industrial operations.
