Dear Sheila,
How are you? Hope you are fine. How was your holiday?
Last Saturday, I enjoyed myself by becoming a volunteer at Sinar Harapan
Home, a place for disabled children. The children were going for an outing to Zoo
Melaka on that day. The home workers and I helped the children to board the bus
safely. They were extremely excited to be there.
Half an hour later we arrived at the zoo. The children were anxious to see
many animals there. I helped to push a disabled girl, Amira in a wheelchair around
the zoo. After that, I helped the home workers to distribute food for lunch to the
children. I also took pictures with them and everyone had a good time at the zoo.
After returning from the zoo, the children thanked me for helping them. The
home workers were also glad that I came as a volunteer. I plan to visit them again in
future.

Mahsuri - The Legend

According to the legend, Mahsuri was the most beautiful Malay lady who lived
in Padang Matsirat, Langkawi Island, sometimes in 19th century.
Her family was from Phuket, Thailand or formerly known as Siam.
She was married to Wan Darus, a handsome and brave
warrior. At one time, Wan Darus had to leave Mahsuri alone when
he had to go for a war. During his absence, Mahsuri befriended
with a young man named Deraman. Due to her beauty, Mahsuri
was envied by most women in the Island, especially Wan Mahora.
She was the wife of the village chief who was also her sister-in law. She started a
vicious rumour saying that Mahsuri was having an affair with
Deraman in the absence of her husband. Soon, the entire
villagers turned against Mahsuri and believed the rumour.
Mahsuri pleaded her innocence but no one believed her.
She was sentenced to death. She was tied to a pole
and stabbed repeatedly with a keris. However, she did not
die. After several failed attempts to kill her, Mahsuri told the people that the only way
she could be killed was, using the family keris. With her dying breath, Mahsuri
cursed the village to have bad luck for seven generations.
