What's wrong?
Our office is hiring a part-timer and ten people applied.
Really? So what's wrong?
One of them is my cousin. I want to hire her...but I'm worried.
Your cousin...do you think she's going to be good on the job?
That's what worries me. Work-wise...I don't think she's going to
be good.
They say that charity begins at home but you shouldn't hire her if
she's not good.
I think so, too, but right now my cousin really needs some money.
Oh, does she? It's really difficult.

Grammar Points
The Focus of This Lesson Is Learning How to Express a Reason Why You're Doing
Something.
.
"One of them is my cousin."
When describing a situation or talking about something that happened, rather than using the
same plain sentence ending over and over again, Korean people like to use various sentence
endings to add flavor to their sentences and also to specify the purpose of their sentences.
One of them is -() (-geodeun(yo)).
We use -() (-geodeun(yo)) to express a reason or to describe a fact. When we end a
sentence with - (-geodeun(yo)), Korean people take it as an explanation for something
or expect that there's an additional explanation following. We can add the - (yo) at the end
to make the sentence polite, and we can drop it to make the sentence intimate.

The Phrase of The Lesson

The phrase of the lesson is (pal-eun an-euro gupneunda). This literally

means that an arm is bent inward, not outward. So this phrase implies that when you do
something, even if you try to be fair, you naturally tend to think and act in the best interests of
those you're close to. So we can use this phrase to describe a person or a situation where
the person is not or cannot be very fair to everyone because he or she has a close
relationship with someone among the people. For example, if two people are arguing over
something and one person is your family member, and therefore you're naturally on that
person's side, you could describe the situation as .
