Week 2. Classroom Manipulatives.

Identify models and manipulatives that are available to use


in a mathematics classroom that you visit.
Blocks, linking cubes, links, money, counting blocks, and dice.

o Did you see them being used?


Yes, but not all of them.
o If so, what models and manipulatives were used?
Linked cubes, counting bolocks, and dice.

Ask your MST about how she organizes her class when she
uses manipulatives.
My MST has a standard lesson plan from the Ministry of Education that
she must follow it, and if the lesson will not take times to explain, or if she
gets the time to present the manipulative, she prepares before the
beginning of the class.

o Does she write her lessons differently?


She follows the lesson plan from the Ministry of Education.

o Does she use more or less time for the activities?


More of the lessons is for explaining and solving the activity books, the
teacher rarely applies activities.

o How does she prepare the materials before the lesson?


Check the materials, isolate what she will use on her desk, and order the
materials to smoothly use them.

o How does she give directions or model the use of the


manipulatives?
Ensure that the students are listening to her, show them the function of
using the manipulatives, and model one using of the manipulative.
Take pictures of the materials for your artifacts.
