Turmeric futures rise on spot demandNov 11,2016
11:29 Hrs
ISTTurmeric futures trade positive on NCDEX as traders enlarged their
holdings tracking the surge in the demand for the commodity. However,
gains remained capped on expectations of increasing production in coming
harvesting season and lowering export demand in recent months. The
contract for November delivery was trading at Rs 7340, up by 1.02% or Rs
74 from its previous closing of Rs 7266. The open interest of the contract
stood at 3465 lots.
Soyabean futures traded higher on NCDEX as the traders enlarged their
holdings in the commodity on account of the good demand in the spot
market against restricted arrivals from producing belts. However,
expectations of higher production in the major producing area capped the
gains. In its revised crop projection for kharif 2016, the Soyabean
Processors Association of India (SOPA) has put Indias soyabean crop at
114.9 lakh tonnes (LT) - about 5% higher than the initial crop estimate of
108.8 LT.
Jeera futures continued to show a bearish trend on NCDEX as
speculators offloaded their positions on weak demand. Further, favorable
climatic conditions on the back of good rains in Gujarat this year and
expectations of higher sowing this year may keep prices under downside
pressure. The contract for November delivery was trading at Rs 16975,
down by 1.99% or Rs 345 from its previous closing of Rs 17320. The open
interest of the contract stood at 1725 lots. The contract for December
delivery was trading at Rs 17240, down by 1.57% or Rs 275 from its
previous closing of Rs 17515.
Coriander futures were trading lower on NCDEX as speculators trimmed
positions, tracking a weak trend at spot market on sluggish demand. Further,
expectations of good arrivals from producing regions on back of good
rainfall this season also put pressure on the commodity prices. The contract
for November delivery was trading at Rs 7521, down by 0.66% or Rs 50.00
from its previous closing of Rs 7571.00.

The country has ample stock of sugar and its price will remain under
check, Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said on Thursday. In a statement
issued by the ministry after a review meeting, Paswan said the country has
started with a carryover stock of 7.71 million tonnes of sugar in the current
sugar season 2016-17. "The production of sugar has been estimated at
about 22.52 million tonnes in the current sugar season. While domestic
consumption is estimated at about 25.5 million tonnes, the stock position
at the close of the current season (September 2017) is likely to be 4.73
million tonnes, which will be carried forward for the next sugar season
2017-18," Paswan said. "Thus, the total availability of sugar in the country
would be sufficient to meet domestic consumption (demand).Sugar
production in the next season (2017-18) is not only expected to be good
but also likely to start early and, therefore, there will be no shortage of
domestically produced sugar in India, the minister said. "By November
2017, another 2 million tonnes would be available from early crushing.
