Who is MeAsa Weyo?

MeAsa Weyo (real name Maude Florent) is a Belgian singer/
songwriter. Comprising pop, soul, African groove, and funk,
her style has been described as a veritable fusion.
In 2016, with the help of a crowdfunding campaign, MeAsa produced her first
album Way of Indigo, containing 10 self-penned tracks, 9 in English, one

MEASA WEYO IN 3 QUESTIONS

What does your stage name mean?
MeAsa is an African name. Weyo is an abbreviation of Way of Indigo the title of my first album.
Where did it come from?
I chose an African name because my father was born in Africa. Specifically in Congo. I have always felt
connected to this continent, its rhythms, its music, its colours, its smells, its stories and its philosophy of
life. I do not know the exact meaning of the name Me'Asa; but the day I discovered it I felt it fit me.
Why is your album called Way of Indigo?
Indigo is the color is attributed to a particular group of children born in the 1980s. This is also the time
when I came into the world. According to an African legend, these children have special psychological
and spiritual abilities. I love legends. They give life more intensity. Way of Indigo is also a name that has
followed me for many years. It was the name of my first band, and the name of the first choir I created
and directed whilst living in the South of France for three years. I also wrote the title track of the album
for that choir. It represents a part of me, of my musical and human journey, my past and my present.
