Letter of Recommendation
It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation for Mrs. Kathryn Stewart. I
have been Mrs. Stewarts academic adviser for the past two years here at Shenandoah University
Eleanor Wade School of Nursing.
Mrs. Stewart continues to demonstrate a high level of professionalism, is hard-charging and a
dedicated critical thinker. As an example of her passion for learning and a long history that
demonstrates leadership, teamwork and the ability to work with a diverse set of people, in June
2015, she participated in a week long multi-disciplinary medical service trip to Jacmel, Haiti as
part of the Community Coalition Haiti volunteer efforts. There the team provided womens
health services. Mrs. Stewart also contacted the Remote Area Medical organization and
coordinated with that organization to have three students and a faculty member volunteer at their
southwestern Virginia site. Later this experience became a part of the Health Disparities elective
course.
Also, Mrs. Stewart has been very involved in one on one academic tutoring in an after school
program for children of low-income urban Head Start program and co-authored an article on
preschoolers knowledge about the appearance of proper names. She has been meeting with the
volunteer coordinator of a local assisted living facility to provide blood pressure screening for
residents and possibly a nutrition workshop.
Kathryn continues to provide safe, individualized care to the many patients she has cared for in
the clinical setting and most recently expressed that her ultimate goal is to complete graduate
student as a psychiatric nurse practitioner.
I would strongly endorse this students desire to further her goal to begin her graduate studies in
her field of interest..
