The author states that the use of technology in education could increase academic
performance. This, can be started by training the teachers. The speaker, strengthens
the authors points of view of the importance of educating teachers by pointing out
the success stories of Riverdale schools students and teachers.
Technology serves to be useful for students in their learning experience. The
greatest benefit is that technology can suit students learning style. Therefore,
students can understand a certain concept faster and easier. In addition, with
Internet, students can bring their classroom experience even on a wider scope.
These goals can only be realized if technology is used regularly in classroom by the
teachers. However, the author finds that not many teachers utilize technology on a
day-to-day basis. Most teachers also do not make the most out of technology in
classroom.
Being in the same page with the author, the speaker suggests that the majority of
teachers are still unfamiliar and not comfortable with the use of computers in class.
Both the author and speaker talks about how educating the teachers about the use
of technology proves to be useful. The author gives an evidence about a study where
teachers who receive training have their students performed better on math tests.
Moreover, the speaker also shares how using computer simulation and higher-order
thinking skills by the teachers who had undergone 200 hours of training had their
students scored signifcantly higher. Both the passage and the lecture agree on the
idea that a commitment to train the teachers are crucial in the success of
implementing technology in the classroom.

We live our own lives and with others as well. Needless to say, to be independent in
doing our tasks are necessary. However, most people do not realize the importance
of working as a team and will find it hard to cooperate and collaborate with their
peers. I believe that being able to work with a group of people on a team is more
important.
It is crucial to realize that we are not alone and we need each other. It is misleading
to think that educated and strong people can do things on their own. Even surgeons
and construction workers need their assistants to help them in realizing their own
common goals, for example to cure people and to build a house, respectively. The
question is how do these people achieve it? It is through working as a team, of

course. And they have to get used to it and be able to cooperate well.
In addition, by working together we can achieve great things. It is really rare that a
certain person acquire all the talents and capabilities. In woking on a certain project,
we usually see at least there are two people working there to help each other out. By
working together, people can share thoughts and unique perspectives. These are the
roots of how creative people come with innovative inventions and crazy ideas. Thus,
it is truly beneficial in being able to work with a group of people in a team.
To sum up, in my point of view, the ability of coopreating with peers in a team is more
useful than being able to work indeependently. When we live in the society, we need
others who can work hand in hand with us in achieving our goals. Not only that, but
exchanging ideas when working with other people will also widen our mind.

The author suggests that humans have been questioning about the animal
intelligence. Researchers use the self-recognition test as a basis of defining
intelligence in animals. The speaker, being on the same point of view with the author
states that this study is of a great controversy.
The passage and the lecture give a clear idea on how the researchers undergo the
experiments to test the animal intelligence. In an experiment designed to test the
emotions of animals, the scientists treated the chimpanzees by giving them videos of
the other chimpanzees. Finally they observed at these mammals reaction. In
addition, using mirror as a self-recognition test has been conducted on dolphins,
elephants, and great apes as well. The author says that these animals can react and
look at their reflection in the mirror. They also use a marker and test whether they are
trying to wipe those markers from their bodies. Some researchers believe that these
animals acquire the abilities to recognize themselves and to emphatize the others.
However, the results of these experiments are debatable. The author points out that
the term intelligence itself is subjective and could be differently perceived by different
people. Whereas in the lecture, mammals that showed reactions when given a mirror
cannot be merely said as having a self-recognition ability. They might only show their
interests with the objects. As such, both the author and the speaker agree on the
same idea that animal behaviors are difficult to interpret despite series of
experiments have been conducted on them.
