Where tendons in sheaths or sheaths alone are left exposed to the atmosphere, use rust inhibitors, in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, to prevent rusting and corrosion of inside sheaths. - DUCT JOINTS: between members comprising precast units stressed together are to be in prefect alignment and joined securely to allow unimpeded cable threading and pulling and to prevent ingress of epoxy mortar used for gluing units together before stressing. Submit details of such joints for approval prior to incorporation in the work. - IMMEDIATELY BEFORE TENSIONING: ensure that all tendons are free to move between jacking points and that members are free to accommodate horizontal and vertical movements due to application of pre-stress. TRANSFER STRENGTH OF CONCRETE: unless otherwise specified, do not stress concrete until it has reached the age when two test cylinders taken from it have attained specified transfer strength. Where members consist of jointed elements, the strength at transfer of the jointing material is to be least equivalent to specified transfer strength of the member. - DATUM POINT: for measuring extension and jack pressure is to be established to the satisfaction of the Engineer. - FORCES AND EXTENSIONS: make allowance to the specified forces where necessary for anchorage friction, wedge pull-in jack losses and friction due to duct alignment and curvature - STRESSES IN TENDONS: immediately after anchoring and during stressing the value is not to exceed the limits required by ACI 318-99. - STRESS TENDONS: at a gradual and steady rate until they attained force and extension specified, APG Tender Document Masjed for Islamic Affairs & Charitable Activities Department E22 Pre-stressed Concrete (Awaaf) Donated by Al Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Page 16 of 17 FORCE IN TENDONS: is to be obtained from reading on load céll pressure guage and extension of tendons is to be measured. Due allowance is to be made for taking up. EXTENSION OF TENDONS: if measured extension differs by more than 5% from estimated extension, take corrective action as directed by the Engineer. STRESSING FROM ONE END ONLY: accurately measure pull-in at end remote from jack and make appropriate allowance in measured extension at jacking end. ANCHORING: when specified force, including any overload of short duration, has been applied to the satisfaction of the Engineer, the tendons are to be anchored. Release jack pressure in a manner to avoid shock to anchorage of tendons. AT COMPLETION OF ANCHORING: if pull-in of tendons is greater that that stipulated by the Engineer, tensioning is to be repeated. CUTTING TENDONS: After full stressing, protruding strands or bars of permanent tendons are cut-off using an abrasive disc saw. If it is necessary to cut tendons to enable ducts to be grouted, this is to be delayed for as long as possible up to the time of grouting. In all other cases, unless agreed otherwise by the Engineer, do not crop tendons less than 3 days after grouting RECORDS: keep full and detailed records of all tensioning operations including ‘measured extensions, pressure gauge or load cell readings and amount of pull-in at each anchorage. .Supply copies f records to the Engineer within 24 hours of each tensioning operation MIX GROUT: for a minimum of 2 minutes and until a uniform and colloidal consistency is obtained. Pumpability of grout may be determined in accordance with U.S. Crops of Engineers Method CRD-C79 in which case efflux time of grout sample immediately after mixing is not be less than 11 seconds. ADMIXTURES containing chlorides or nitrates are not be used in the grout. Other admixtures may be used with approval of the Engineer and are to be strictly in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, GROUT INJECTOR: is to operate continuously with a sensibly constant pressure up to 0.7N/mm’ and is to include a system for circulating or agitating the grout while grouting is not in progress. Pump baffles are to be fitted with sieve strainer or Imm nominal aperture size to BS 410 or ASTM El 1. Equipment is to be capable of maintaining pressure on completely grouted ducts and is to be fitted with nozzle, which can be locked off without loss of pressure in duet. PRESSURE GAUGES: are to be calibrated before first use in the work and thereafier as required by the APG, Tender Document neem ne eee eee ele Masjed for Islamic Affairs & Charitable Activities Department E22 Pre-strossed Concrete (Awaat) Donated by Al Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Page 17 of 17 CLEANING OF EQUIPMENT: by thoroughly washing with clean water, is be carried out at least once every 3hours during operations and at the end of use each day. GROUTING TRIALS are to be carried out when required by the Engineer. ANCHORAGES: are to be sealed before grouting, TEMPERATURE: do not grout ducts when air temperature in the shade is lower than 3deg. C. Grout is not to be above 32 deg. C during mixing or pumping and, if necessary, mixing water is to be cooled. CLEANING OF DUCTS: clean all ducts thoroughly by compressed air. Fill ducts formed without sheathing with water at least 1 hour before grouting. Do not fill sheathed ducts with water unless required by the Engineer. Blow out water filled to ducts using compressed air. GROUTING; carry out as soon as practicable after tendons have been stressed and the Engineer's permission to start has been obtained, Completely fill ducts with grout injected in one continuous operation, Allow grout to flow from vents until consistency is equivalent to that being injected. Seal vents consecutively in direction of flow and seal injection tube under pressure until grout has set. PROTECTION: protect filled ducts, to the satisfaction of the Engineer, to ensure that they are not subjected to shock or vibration for Iday and that temperature of grout does not fall below 3 deg. C for 3days after injection. MAKING GOOD: 2days after grouting, inspect the level of grout in the injection and vent tubes and make good if necessary. RECORDS: keep full and detailed records of grouting including date each duct was grouted, protection of grout and admixtures used, pressure, details of any interruptions and topping up required. Supply copies of records to the Engincer within 3 days of grouting. TESTING OF DUCTS: when required by the Engineer, provide faci attendance for radiographic testing of ducts.
