1. Filter for unique values
To filter for unique values, use the Advanced command in the Sort & Filter group on the Data tab. Select the range of cells, or make sure the active cell is in a table 1.To filter the range of cells or table in place, click Filter the list, in-place. 2.To copy the results of the filter to another location, do the following: - Click Copy to another location. - In the Copy to box, enter a cell reference. - Select the Unique records only check box, and click OK. 2. Conditional Formatting If you need to see how many duplicates you have, select one or more cells in a range or table. On the Home tab, in the Styles group, click the arrow next to Conditional Formatting, and then click Highlight Cells Rules. Select Duplicate Values. 3. Combination of text from multiple cells You can use the ampersand (&) operator in a formula to combine text from multiple cells into one cell, such as a first name and a last name. Select the cell in which you want to combine the contents of other cells. To start the formula, type =( To combine the contents of two cells, select the first cell that contains the text that you want to combine, type &" "& (a space enclosed in quotation marks), and then select the next cell that contains the text that you want to combine. To complete the formula, type ) To see the results of the formula, press ENTER. 4. Split the text in two columns If you have a column of full names, you can split that column into separate first name and last name columns. Select the cell or column that contains the text you want to split. Make sure theres enough empty columns to the right so nothing over there gets overwritten. Click Data >Text to Columns. This starts the Convert Text to Columns Wizard. Click Delimited > Next. Check Space, and clear the rest of the boxes. You can see a preview of your data in the Data preview window. Click the next and then click Finish.
