CRIME AGAINST CRIME

An extrajudicial killing is authority of a government without any judicial or legal process to execute a
person. It is seen as unethical since the person is denied of legal and due process. This year, our new
President, Rodrigo Duterte is now in control to end crime, violence, and corruption. Drugs can ruin families,
now is the time to put an end to this. The Philippines is considered one of the most dangerous countries in the
world to engage in human rights advocacy. Perhaps the most objective definition of state violence for me is
that it is an act of violence/terrorism carried out or sponsored by a government that involves deliberate attacks
on civilians, for the purpose of attaining a political and/or religious goal.
Extrajudicial killings or the act of taking ones life committed by state authorities in the absence of
proper proceedings and processes is unfair and inaccurate. The reason for this, is because although it
presents undeniable facts about numerous dead bodies being discovered with alleged vigilante messages
written on cardboard strips and news reports about suspected criminals gunned down by police for allegedly
trying to violently resist arrest, it also makes the unfair assumption that the Duterte administration sanctions
these killings in an extrajudicial manner.
Personally, I am in favor of the approach used by Dutertes government. I think that it is naively
idealistic to believe that drug lords and corrupt officials in a perverted system would care to adhere to these
proper processes of ideal politics, or would they care about the goals of the current administration to make the
country a better place for the least of us. It is high time that corruption and criminality are faced as real issues
that need real actions to quell them. I believe in giving both our president and the police force that serves us
the benefit of the doubt that they are in fact doing their jobs right and with integrity.
I believe that the challenge now lies in society, and our responsibility to exercise our ability to remain informed,
vigilant, and supportive of the new administrations efforts to meet its goals
