Instructional Strategies and
Learning Tasks
[ This lesson will begin with
the students getting a
subtraction problem along
with a set of 20 unifix
cubes. I will have the
students try the problem on
their own and then if a
student successfully finds
the answer, I will have them
explain their strategy to the
class. After doing so, I will
show the students the
strategy of breaking apart
numbers to subtract. Based
on the pre-assessment
results, I will give different
levelled problems to each
student to work on as I
move around to each
student to help. ]
[ I will give groups different
problems and
manipulatives to solve
based on their preassessment and progress
in the lesson one. After the
groups have solved their
problems, I will have each
group share the strategies

Formative and
Summative
Assessments
[ The assessment
for this lesson will be
the problems they
complete on their
own. It will be
graded for
completion. ]

the groups
completion of the
problems. ]
