Clock System
In BS8700, the CC board generates and distributes the clock. The
clock source falls into the following types:

Embedded GPS receiver

External GPS/Galileo/BeiDou receiver

BITS-2MHz clock

BITS-2Mbps clock (introduced through the 8th E1/T1 on SA

board)

E1/T1 line clock

IEEE1588 clock (IP clock reference source)

CC distributes two groups of clocks, 61.44 MHz clock and FR (10

ms)/FN clock, simultaneously and distributes to the boards via the
backplane, to meet the requirements of GSM/UMTS respectively.

Inner Communication Network

The BS8700 system contains two switching networks.

IP signaling stream and media flow switching network: Its

switching plane is the Ethernet switching module on the CC
board.

IQ data switching network: Its switching plane is the IQ switching module on the FS board.

The communication between boards uses the IP signaling flow and

media flow switching network.

Software Introduction
The BS8700 software consists of two parts: foreground software
and background software. The foreground software refers to the

software that runs on the boards and the background software

refers to the NM software.
Foreground
Software

The foreground software exists in the form of the packet, which

can be downloaded to the main control board through the NM software. The main control board distributes the foreground software
to other boards and then the software starts to run.

Background
Software

The background software includes OMC and LMT. The OMC performs the remote operation and maintenance on the system, while
the LMT performs the local operation and maintenance on the system.
NetNumen M31 is the registered trade mark of the OMC software. NetNumen M31 can perform the management, operation,
and maintenance on all models of GSM/WCDMA BSs, including
BS8700.

LMT Software

Local maintenance terminal (LMT) is the NM tool to perform the

Overview

38

NetNumen M31 radio access network integrated NMS (NetNumen M31 or integrated NM in short) is the system between the
lower-level NM and upper-layer operation supporting system. NetNumen M31 enables the users to manage the network by considering the global network at the same time. It supports centralized
management of all professional networks provided by the operators. Through the interface to all professional NMs, NetNumen
M31 can manage the professional networks in the manner of centralized network topo, centralized alarm, and centralized performance, changed from the former scattered management mode.
Meanwhile, NetNumen M31 provides a uniform interface for the
upper-layer application system.

Confidential and Proprietary Information of ZTE CORPORATION

Chapter 2 System Description

NetNumen M31 adopts the technology totally facing the objects.

Its design is based on the advanced J2EE platform. NetNumen 31
realizes the integrated access of all NE devices that are manufactured by ZTE Corporation. It supports centralized alarm management and centralized performance management on NE, and fulfills
the function of cross-NE performance data analysis.
Compared with NE-level NM, the advantages of the radio network
centralized NM are:

Features

It focuses on the fault management, performance statistics and

configuration management in the whole network

It provides a broader management scope with the capability of

managing both devices of ZTE and third-party devices

NetNumen M31 has a Client/Server architecture. The application server connects to the radio network subsystem and
meets various application requirements. The client only provides an interface for the operator to input operation instructions and view the result.

The server can run on the Unix or Windows operating system.

It supports the application of Oracle database, meeting the
performance requirement during the operation of the system.

The system software has a modularized structure, providing

a good scalability for the system. The software modules
can be distributed on different computers according to the
actual requirement to improve the processing capacity of the
system. The system supports distributed deployment, which
brings convenience in constructing a management network on
a large-scale site.

The overall structure of the system is designed in compliance

with the framework of Telecommunication Management Network (TMN) specified by ITU-T.

The system supports the centralized maintenance and management of various radio network subsystems, including
WCDMA, TD-SCDMA and GSM radio networks. Accordingly,
the NEs that can be maintained and managed by the system
include: RNC and Node B in WCDMA networks, RNC and Node
B in TD-SCDMA networks, as well as BSC and BTS in GSM
networks. It supports the access of up to 40 equivalent NEs.

Designed according to TMN specifications of ITU-T and related

specifications of 3GPP, the system provides more value-added
applications besides the basic management functions. All the
functions are organized around the core of managed objects.
And various supplementary management tools are provided for
assistance.

The system provides both GUI and command line interface. It

supports MML commands.

The system provides network topological graphs for monitoring the running status of the whole network in an intuitive way.
The network topological graphs can be organized on different
levels, such as global topological graph, and local topological
graph. The system can not only show the alarms in the whole
network in a centralized way, but also indicate the alarms on
the topological graph and corresponding rack map in real time.
It prompts the alarms at different severity levels through different sounds and colors. The system also supports the cen-
