Nettie
When Mister threw me out that day, I was so mad, I went straight to
the church, but when the Reverends wife opened the door, she had
two little children with her. And something about those children
made my mad go away. So I asked her if they needed help with those
children, and they told me they were going to Africa as missionaries
and maybe I could come with them.
Celie

Nettie a missionary!

about my family. And I told him about you and everything happened
to youAnd he told me, Celie! Hes the one Pa gave your babies to!

OUR PRAYER
Lyrics Sheet

I wanna know how the world goes.
How far is the moon?
How the sky change its color?
Hope I find out soon.

Aint no need to discuss.
It aint worth a big fuss.
Whatever come to us is in Gods hands.

When I lay me down to sleep,
I will say my prayer that God love me so deep,
He will promise our souls to keep together
I say a prayer.

And one day our children will sing.
When I lay me down to sleep,
I will say my prayer that God love me so deep,
He will promise our souls to keep together
Ill say a prayer.
Ill say our prayer.

AFRICA
Lyrics Sheet

Dear Celie, oh I love you.
Years go by and still youre with me.
All we share is one big sky.
I pray for your reply.

I teach your children ABCs for a missionary family.
These babies sent God are you. Adam and Olivia alive! Alive!

I vibrated like a bell when I saw the African coast.
And we kneeled down and thanked God.
Thank God. Thank God.

For letting us see the land where our mothers and fathers died.
African homeland.
Homeland, land of my people, people, people.

It was like black seeing black for the first time.
19

Shiny blue black people lookin real fine

In brilliant blue robes that fly on the winds
Like a beautiful quilt stitched together by friends. Mmmm.

You could put everything I knew in a thimble.
What were taught to be dont resemble
The kings and queens, who for thousands of years
Ruled magnificent cities washed away by tears.

We walk away from this ravaged land
With courage deep in our hearts,
To face the unknown together.
Well find a place where we can be,
Where spirit rise and soul is free.
Oh, people. My people.
