Extension Activities
1. Follow the First Day of Winter book and on various days after the first day of winter
allow children to bring in winter wear items to donate to a local shelter.
2. Students could make paper mittens. They would have their hands traced in the shape of
a mitten. Having two sheets of paper per hand, the teacher would take a hole punch
and punch holes around the shapes. Then students would lay shapes on top of each
other and use yarn to sew the pieces together to create mittens.
