Project 2
1. Select a product/system of your choice that consists of the following mechanical
components:
a) Shafts
b) Bearing and lubricant
c) Fasteners and joints
Choose at least/minimum 2 combination of the mechanical components.
2. You are required to improve the product/system (innovative design).
3. Every group should prepare a ONE PAGE of short proposal with title and summary of
the product/system. Then, you have to present the idea during the lab session (5minute presentation).
W8 (K1: 26 October 2016 & K2: 27 October 2016).
4. In your design specification, you need to anticipate EVERY POSSIBLE CRITERION
required such as:
Material selection
Cost
Size
Safety
5. You are required to come up with a Design Selection Method and at least THREE
Conceptual Design (Sketch using A3 drawing paper from the Department).
6. After that, you need to develop your final design using any CAD Software
- Print using the A3 drawing paper from the Department.
- Show the isometric and orthographic projection.

The Design Process Plan:

a) Define the problem, collect information or background research (W8,9)
b) Specify requirements & brainstorm solution / morphology chart (W9)
c) Conceptual design and final design (W10)
d) Analysis, parametric design and details drawing (W12)
e) Material selection and estimate cost (W13)
e) Submit the drawing and report (hardcopy & softcopy) by Week 14 (Thursday, 15
December 2016 before 4 PM). Late submission = minus 10 mark.

Report should follow this format:

Font 12
Spacing: 1.15 or 1.5
One sided (80 gsm)
Ring bound or Tape binding
