STRENGTH & DEFLECTION BEHAVIOUR OF RCC BEAM

AIM:To determine the deflection behavior of RCC beam.

APPARATUS REQUIRED:

Loading frame
Hydraulic jack
Specimen
Deflectometer
PROCEDURE:
1) The specimen size of 1200 mm x 150 mm x 150 mm is cast.
2) Provide 2 no of 12 mm dia main bars & 2 no of 8 mm dia hanger bars at top.
3) Provide 8 mm dia bars stirrups at 150 mm spacing at support and 300 mm spacing at
middle of the beam.
4) It is then left and kept for testing for appropriate day strength attainment.
5) The specimen is taken for testing and measure specimen length.
6) Keep the specimen in UTM in centre point and apply load.
7) A constant load of 10 kN is applied and the deflectometer with least count of 0.01 mm is
fixed at the centre of the beam to measure the maximum defection.
8) The corresponding deflection is observed.
9) Draw the stress-strain curve and calculate the youngs modulus.
FORMULA USED:Youngs modulus, E = WL3/48I
Where,
W = Load applied in N
L = Length of the specimen
= Deflection Reading in mm
I = Moment of inertia in mm4
