Poetry Slam
The poetry slam, in my eyes, was a huge success due to the fact that numerous people
came to support the contestants that recited their poem. I did not know that they were competing
for money until the end of the program. I assumed that they were only performing to speak their
mind and express their feelings freely. The host of the event was extremely funny, however, he
was making me mad throughout the night. He should have explained the rules before the poetry
slam even started to clear up any confusions for the performers. Since he did not do this,
numerous people were delayed points by introducing themselves at the beginning of their poem.
He also prevented one of the contestants from using a prop in his poem, even though the
contestant explained to him that they let him use the prop during his audition. The judging was
very hard, and I do believe that the judges did not make some of the correct choices when
scoring the contestants. The judges gave extremely low scores to individuals who spoke their
heart and had the entire crowd giving them a standing ovation.
The poetry slam is something the university should continue to do. It brought many of the
students together and it showed that there are truly artistic and ingenious student here at North
Carolina A&T. My only main concern about the entire night was the spacing. Due to the fact that
so many individuals wanted to witness the slam, some people did not have seats. In the future, I
think the poetry slam should be hosted in another location because it will only get more popular

as time progresses. This being said there will be limited amount of space and not everyone will
be able to witness the talents of our fellow students. Overall, I loved the poetry slam and I would
love to go to the next one the school has.
