A long time ago, in Bengkulu, there was a Sungai Serut kingdom. Ratu
Agung was the king with 6 sons and one daughter named Putri Gading Cempaka.
Sungai Serut kingdom was very famous of the king’s leadership and the beauty of
Putri Gading Cempaka. The people were very respectful to the king as he was a
wise person.

One day, Ratu Agung got a serious ill. He told his children to keep the
kingdom in peace. Then, he pointed his son, Anak Dalam, as a king to be. All
children agreed with this. The king said “I hope you all stay united in joy or
sorrow. If one day Sungai Serut Kingdom is hit by a big disaster, go to Mount
Punggung Bungkuk to be safe.” A few days later, Ratu Agung passed away. Then, Anak Dalam
was crowned a king.
The kingdom became more well-known. It made the beauty of the princess was known all
over the world. Many nobles and princes came to propose Putri Gading Cempaka, but she
refused all of them. This condition made a kingdom from Aceh attacked Sungai Serut. The six
siblings then escaped to Mount Punggung Bungkuk.

Years passed by; Sungai Serut Kingdom was ruled by a new king. Fortunately, the people
knew the true story of the six siblings. Finally, they decided to invite them home. Then, Putri
Gading Cempaka married to Maharaja Sakti, the king of Bangkahulu Kingdom which was formerly
the Sungai Serut Kingdom. Since then, they lived happily ever after.

Anoa is known as Sapi Utan or Kerbau Kerdil. It has two species:


the mountain anoa and the lowland anoa. Both live in rainforest in
Sulawesi and Buton. They are similar in appearance to small water
buffalos.
Both species of anoa are classified as endangered animals since
the 1960s. The populations continue to decrease. Fewer than 5,000
animals of each species likely remain. Reasons for their decline include hunting and loss of
habitat due to the advancement of settlement. Currently, hunting is the more serious factor
in most areas.
The lowland anoa stands over 90 cm at the shoulder. The horns are straight and
upright. There are white spots below the eyes and white markings on the legs and back. It is
usually solitary, living in lowland forests and wetlands, browsing on plants and undergrowth.
The mountain anoa stands at 70 cm at the shoulder. It is smaller than the lowland
anoa. and the smallest of all living wild cattle. It also has longer, woolier hair that molts every
February to April. It has faint spots on the head, neck and limbs.
The main difference between the two species is their habitat. The mountain anoa is
found at higher elevations and in the forested mountainous regions. The lowland anoa
spends its time in the lower elevation areas and in forested areas.
