VIGAN CITY, University of Northern Philippines The Student of Arts and Sciences Organization

(SASO) organized a Blood Letting Activity in

collaboration with the Philippine Red Cross
(PRC) - Ilocos Sur Chapter, College of Arts
Sciences (CAS) Extension, and University of
Northern Philippines (UNP) Extension last
September 23 at CAS Multi-Media Lab.
The main purpose of this activity is the
sustainability of the need such as the victims of
Dengue and other related diseases because we
need a minimum of 15 blood bags to dispense
every day, explained Mr. Raymund Mario Chan,
Officer-in-Charge of PRC-Ilocos Sur.
One of the priorities now is the students to instil
the importance of helping other people. We are
focusing on students because they are very
young and they are assured they do not have
sicknesses yet that may thwart them from
donating, he added.
On the other hand, Dr. Kristen Benedict Figuerres, a
member of Ilocos Sur Medical Society said, "We
encourage different stakeholders to donate
blood especially this rainy season which

dengue is epidemic. And one way to lessen the

demand is to donate blood."
A total of 37 bags of blood (16.65 liters) were
collected from the activity and all of these were
donated by students, members of the Pledge 25,
and members and officers of other accredited
organizations.
Mr. Jomar Arabe the President of Alpha Phi Sigma
Fraternity, said that they have agreed among
their members to participate in the blood letting
acitivity so that they can extend help to other
people. However, only three out of six who
actually came were qualified to donate.
Mr. Arabe shared he is happy to know that he'll be
able to help people in the future. They plan to
organize a similar activity in December.
The students were first interviewed about their
conditions to ensure that they are suitable and
healthy to be donors. Their blood type and
blood pressure were also checked.

to enlighten the darkest realm of mankind. They
are sent to journey and to fight in an endless
battle, a battle that may result for their sudden
death but still they choose to embrace this task,
to accept this responsibility and to shoulder the
future of this world

Hearing the banging alarm that indicates the
beginning of the war, they stepped up on their
respective duties inside the clinic, tactic room
and training ground to fulfil their job and to help
their comrades.

They must stay focus each day, every minute, every

time because they would not know when will the
enemies going to attack.
One more thing, their enemies are countless.
They're many but have different kind of
personalities. Some are aggressive, intelligent
and most are lazy, therefore they don't have
time to rest.
"Medic! Medic! Medic!"
In their life, many things can happen and the worst
things are the massive numbers of wounded
trainees that rush in their comfort. Here they
give everything they have to bring healing.
"Understood?!"
The simplest task that everyone visualized without
knowing its true value. The tactic room
improved the intellectual abilities of the
trainees. They handle the hardest task because
one wrong command everything may be
destroyed.
"Go! Go! Go!"
Now the most painful part, the training ground
where the trainees were forced and pushed to
improve their physical state.
Yup! Their tasks are not easy because it's painful
and stressful, that's why they were called
"Suicide Squad". They are the real hero, our
teachers.

The school is their battlefield. Their comrades and

trainees are the students that will be the future
generation. The attitude problems are their
enemies.
The clinic is the soothing arm of the teachers.
Wherein they try to heal emotional pain of a
student and befriend them.
The tactic room is the well-known classroom where
they teach the students about life to help the
student to choose for their future.
The training ground is the counterpart of the tactic
room for they focused on improving not just
intellectual but also physical abilities of their
students.
Now you know, being a teacher is like committing
suicide because of the endless responsibilities
they carry. They offer their life for us but sad to
say many do not know their sacrifices.
Everyone must know their true value and
appreciate their effort. Salute! Our dear
teachers.
