To whom it may concern:
I am writing you today to recommend Kristina Arnold for a new graduate nursing position in
your facility. Over the summer, she completed a ten-week Veterans Affairs Learning
Opportunity Residency (VALOR) nursing externship with me in the Intensive Care Unit at the
Southern Arizona Veterans Health Care System. Under my direct supervision, Kristina
completed comprehensive assessments of critically-ill Veterans and worked collaboratively with
the interdisciplinary team to coordinate complex plans of care. She gained valuable exposure to
rapid-sequence intubation, mechanical ventilation, and ventilator weaning protocols; continuous
sedation with bispectral index monitoring; neuromuscular blockers with peripheral nerve
stimulator monitoring; central venous catheters, pulmonary artery catheters, and arterial catheters
with advanced hemodynamic monitoring; as well as many other types of procedures and
equipment.
During the time that I have known and worked with Kristina, I have found her to be enthusiastic,
extremely dependable, and highly motivated. Kristina is well-organized, has a fine attention to
detail, and asks astute questions, always seeking to know the detailed rationale behind a
particular practice or intervention. She learns technical skills very quickly, takes constructive
criticism very well, and collaborates effectively with other nurses as well as other members of
the interdisciplinary team. Her motivation, determination, dedication to learn as much as she
can, and her self-direction will make her a valuable asset to any nursing unit.
In addition to her usual nursing class load, Kristina is also a Student Nurse Technician. She has
excellent written and verbal communication skills, whether she is giving report to the oncoming
shift or presenting a multimedia case study to a large group of nurses, educators, leadership
executives, and her peers. She works independently and is very conscientious in her efforts to
learn and apply herself in her profession. I am honored to write a recommendation letter for her,
and do so without any reservation. If you have any questions regarding Kristina or this
recommendation, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Sinclair, BSN, RN, CCRN
