SANTAS GROTTOS RESEARCH

Every year at christmas hundreds of pop up santas grottos
appear round shopping centres and in streets all over the
country, and thousands of children will drag there parents out so
they can see santa.
This is a thing most families with young children will participate
in activity.
As a kid we remember waiting in the long queues to see santa,
and what made the wait better was when you were taking
through rooms that showed you different christmasy things, like
santa reindeer, or the elfs working away to make all the presents.

WHAT WE PLAN TO DO

THE CHRISTMAS GROTTO

We plan to set up a pop up Santas grottos in shopping centres, that will show
children the different alternatives of christmas to let them see christmas not in a
different light but to think more on others that just themselves receiving guests.
In the queue waiting to see Santa they will go through different rooms that will
be set up in a way that demonstrates these different alternatives, each room will
have information based on these.
Also there will be little elves hidden in each room to make it more interactive
and to encourages children to actually look closely at the rooms.
Children are also inquisitive, so even if they don't quite understand what is
going on they will at least be with there parents who could answer any
questions they have, or they could even ask Santa at the end of the tour.

The next few slides are what will be shown through out the
grotto, with information for each room.

ROOM 1

A NORMAL CHRISTMAS
Here is an example of a more traditional christmas , where families will help each
other to put their tree up , which is a tradition that has been a tradition since the
16th century. Also having a big christmas dinner and sitting at the table with your
family or those closest to you is one of the biggest things about christmas, even out
side playing in the snow making snow men (if you are lucky enough to get snow at
christmas).
Now christmas revolves around our technology, with all the christmas special shows
that will be available through out christmas day, or what is being said and done on
social media. In stead of sitting talking to your family you are either messaging
friends, watching tv or playing games on phones and tablets. Also some family
members will spend the full day looking at christmas through a camera lenses, to
capture reactions as you open presents, or trying to get everyone to be in photos
for next years calendar.

ROOM 2

A CONTRASTING CHRISTMAS
Many people don't only not have a family to see on christmas
but some don't even have a home. They are forced to live out
on the streets, they don't get to sit with their families and have
christmas dinner, they don't have the things we would take for
granted on christmas.
Its not even adults that are left on christmas their are many
children with out families on christmas.

ROOM 3

CHRISTMAS BEHIND THE SCENE

Many companies will use christmas to make lots and lots of money,
Did you know John Lewis spent millions of pounds on their christmas adverts
each year, this is the amount of money that they expect people to spend on
christmas in their stores.
Even some companies like hotels and restaurants for example will keep their
members of staff away from their families at christmas so they can serve the
families that don't make christmas dinner for them selfs. So is it fair to take
people away from their families on christmas so other people could make
more money?
On the average British family will spend 800 this is not including presents,
this is on food, drink, electricity and Christmas cards.

ROOM 4

THE NATIVITY
Here is nativity, the birth place of Jesus, and as most of you know the birth
place of christmas as well, this is why we but Angels and Stars on the tops of
our trees, as it was an Angel that came to Mary to tell her she was going to
have a baby and a Star that lead the Wise Men and the Shepards to baby
Jesus.
