GOAL:

Understand what an ecosystem is, who its members are, how they interact, how energy is transferred from
the sun through the ecosystem.

Role:

The students are working for NASA on ways to sustain long term exploration to Mars using ecosystems.

Audience:

A team of 5 astronauts will be exploring Mars. They will live in a habitat that you will create. Oxygen,
food, and water will need to be the products of the ecosystem to keep the astronauts alive during their exploration of
Mars.

Product:

Design a habitat incorporating and identifying members of an ecosystem that will be able to sustain the
astronauts during their exploration. Students will design this using paper and pencil.
