This semester I learned a lot of great thing I did not know before about evolution, natural
selection, and adaptation. Natural selection is the mechanism by which evolution may take place
in a population of a specific organism. It allows for organisms with stronger traits to reproduce
and the ones with weaker traits to die off. This is beneficial because it helps the reproduction
system for stronger traits to live longer. Adaptation has shaped human culture in several ways.
The human body responds to changing environmental stresses in a variety of biological and
cultural ways. The ability to rapidly adapt and being able to get through changes in different
environmental conditions has made it possible for us to survive in most regions of the world.
Cultural evolution arises from adaptations acquiring ideas, beliefs, values, and practices from
past observations. For example during the course, we learned about how chimpanzees adaptions
were acquired. I believe they also had a culture, which involved, with the interactions, survival
style and communication they had. Moving forward to live in a sustainable world I think its a
good idea to always keep in mind the processes of evolution , natural selection, and adaptation
because you can live more healthy and more tolerant.
