Branching Out From The Proposal

In our proposal, we said that we were going to mainly focus on the film Straight Outta
Compton but once we began the project, we did not include the film at all. We felt as if the film
was not necessary when it came to explaining the origin of rap and how it evolved into trap
music. We took the route of breaking down how rap started and how it started to change. We
discussed all the different branches of rap and trap. We also talked about how rap is important
when it comes to society and societal issues. I used Critical Reflection when it came to deciding
what would be best when it came to what I should and should not include in our Semester-Long
Project. You stated that we should not focus so much on the film and we did not.
Also, we ended up going into deep detail about all the things that derived from rap music.
I was surprised to learn that EDM and Dubstep were branches of trap music. This lead to the
research of the specific skills that partake in being able to produce EDM and Dubstep music. I
wasnt surprised when it came to how popular EDM is and how it is used at many popular events
and concerts. I believe that the roots of EDM and Dubstep are extremely surprising and
unexpected. I would not normally consider EDM and Dubstep as a part of trap music, but when
we conducted some research we learned that EDM and Dubstep would not exist if it wasnt for
the beginning of rap and the different rap beats that came along with the revolution of rap music.
