Wide Awake and Dreaming
Over the past few years, I have been recording each of the dreams that
I remember whenever I wake up. Dreams have always fascinated me. I have
always enjoyed analyzing the different circumstances that my brain has
made up whenever I am asleep.
In the dream, I was dressed in all white. I wore a long, flowing gown
that was fitted perfectly to me. I could not recall where I had acquired this
dress, or why I was wearing it. In one quick leap, I jumped on top of a large
oak tree. I flew effortlessly from tree to tree. The cold, fall wind was rushing
through my long, blonde hair. I gracefully landed atop an oak tree that stood
tall in front of a towering glass building. I hadnt a care for a thing in the
world. Nothing could weigh me down in that moment. But the serenity that
overwhelmed me would soon disappear.
Faint cries of the mob that was chasing after me begun to erupt. With
each breath I took, they marched closer, and closer and closer. I could see
them turn the corner, pitch forks and fire in hand. They looked angry, and
appalled, distraught at me for something that I had done.
At this point in the dream, I had realized my state of consciousness and
awoke within the dream. I made myself fly from one treetop to another, then

another, then another until I was far enough from the mob so that I was safe.
I could hear the group turn and head towards the big glass building.
The dream soon came to an end when I awoke with and scribbled what
I could remember down in my dream journal. This lucid dream is one of very
few that I have had in my lifetime. Each of which, I believe, hold special
meaning to me and what was going on in my life in that period of time.
When regarding the research that I could use to reflect on the topic of
this memoir, the place that this dream took place would no longer accessible
for me, seeing as it is 418 miles away. But, I do have a dream journal that
dates back to before this specific dream took place. The dreams that I had
leading up to and following this dream reflect on events happening in my life.
This dream is significant because it directly correlates to the things that were
happening in my life at that time. I had a lot of work that I had been putting
off. I believe that the mob that was in my dream was a symbol for all the
assignments and application forms that I had procrastinated doing. Also, this
was the first lucid dream that I have had that I can remember. Ever since I
had this dream, I have always been fascinated by the subject. Dreaming is
something that I find to be interesting and, whenever I get the chance, I
make sure to record each of my dreams somewhere, whether it be in my
phone or a journal.
Something that I want the reader to take away from this memoir is that
there are so many different interests that you can take up. Mine, for
example, is dreaming. This story connects to my life because it was

symbolically representative of the events that were taking place at the time.
For example, I hadnt filled out a lot of scholarship application forms or
finished a lot of my homework. As I previously stated, I believe the mob was
a symbol of all my tasks that I needed to complete.
