Standard 2 Artifact Reflection
Standard 2: Skill and Fitness Based Competence
I chose my reflection of my fifth microteach as the artifact for Standard 2. This reflection
discusses my lesson regarding the underhand volleyball serve skill. At the onset of each lesson I
asked the students if they had ever played volleyball before. This way I can find out if they had a
basic understanding of how the movements should be performed. I then discussed the COTS of
underhand serving and had the students demonstrate the movement which helps me to see if the
student is connecting the vocabulary with the actual movement of the skill. I think that this
connection can help to lead to satisfying the NASPE Standard 5 description of a physically
literate individual. Understanding the performance of certain game skills can help to establish
efficacy and lifelong understanding of the value of physical activity.
