MAIN IDEA
INTERACTION WITH THE ENVIRONMENT. The earliest
civilization in Asia arose in Mesopotamia and organized into city-states.
How did Sumerians create city-states? (P. 30-31)
(Who are the Sumerians? They are the people who live Mesopotamia.)
The sumerians were one of the first groups of people to form a
civilization.

Advanced cities
Specialized workers
Complex institutions
Record keeping
Improved technology
City - state - a city with its surrounding land with its own
government. it's like independent country.
Priests and rulers are in charge of city-state.
Priests blessed the farmers food.
During the war tough fighters were in charge of the city-states.
When there were lots of wars, military leaders were in charge all
the time.
Dynasty - a series of rulers from a single family
The Sumerians were rich because they have a lot of food and they
could trade with it.
Ideas such as living in cities spread across the area into the
countries of Iraq, Turkey, and Syria
Cultural diffusion: is ideas that spread to other cultures.
