Research Questions:
How can a teacher increase
engagement in the classroom?
What strategies/ activities
should be implemented to
increase engagement?

Description of Action Plan:

After several days in my
second grade classroom I
noticed that the students
were wigglier and more
often off task during the
second part of the day even
after they had recess and
especially Monday
mornings. How could this
be? I also noticed that
redirecting restless and off
task behavior was affecting
instructional time in the
classroom.

Action Plan Location:

This data was taken in a
second grade classroom of
22 students at School at
St. George Place in HISD.
Intervention:
A 3-4 minutes brain break
using GoNoodle.com
(physical activity), and 13 minutes cool down after
recess in which I turn off
the lights and have them
meditate by closing their
eyes and listening to the
zenergy chime and by taking
deep breathes.

Implication for Practice:

The intervention was
implemented around 9:30
everyday (Especially Mondays).
It was also implemented
everyday after recess/lunch
(12:10pm)

# of
interruptions
# of restless
students
# of students
off task

Results
The number of students off task,
the number of restless students and
the number of interruptions
decreased over time. Students are
paying attention at all given times.
Positive attitude now
Areas of Further
study/recommendations:
During this whole process I believe
I should start looking for extra
activities because students at one
point will get bored of GoNoddle. I
will use new strategies such
physical activities so we can do all
together or classical music to relax
them.
