landscape of protein molecule. At first, author used gray background instead of black and white
background to lower contrast and make it easy to understand. The second was find out a solution with
the problem about the energy surface of visualization at 4 dimensions and chose ray angle to describe
energy was the best way in this research. Finally, created COPLOT legend with data, and it was easy to
find that the energy minimum at the edge domain, and have a second minimum energy. It was hard to
describe energy with mathematical mode, because there were many outside elements influent molecules.

Daniel Carr is interested in four main Areas of research: Statistical graphics; Knowledge
visualization; Data exploration; and Analysis of massive data sets. (Daniel, Department of Statistics, 2006)
After I read some of his papers, most of them are focus on the advancement of statistical research and
application. He likes to create his own way to simplify the process of utilization and do many deeper
research about statistical computing and graphics to explore unknown knowledge.
The professor has abundant academic research experiences in his life. In 2010, he published a book
with Linda pickle called Visualizing Data Patterns with Micromaps. Besides, he took part in design and
provide technical support on new Graphics software tools; worked for developing new statistical graphics
with 1.3M funded; taught 5 different statistical graphics class at George Mason University; and used to
guide 10 Ph.D. students. (Carr, Daniel Carr, 2016)His professional academic writing, organization, and
thinking can improve my academic writing skill. Furthermore, it is a useful way to open my mind, and
create a new view on my field.
