I teach because I believe teaching is a very important profession.

It is one of the few

professions that engages with every individual in a society and as such can either positively or
negatively impact society. In my time in school I unfortunately had a number of negative
teachers. I saw this as unfair to students and didnt want future students to have these same
negative experiences that I had. I value what an education brings to students and I teach in hopes
that my students will value their education as well.
I teach to the common core standards which were adopted by California in 2010. As a
teacher with a multiple-subject teaching credential I teach most all of the subjects covered in the
common core. I teach; reading, writing, language arts, math, science, technology, social studies,
and art; all up to and by the common core standards.
My lesson plans are more of a student-based approach. I teach through engaging
methods. Although I teach to the test I dont teach by the test. Students learn through many
different methods and so I incorporate multiple learning styles in each of my lesson plans. I also
focus more of my interests on what the students want. If I see that my students are more engaged
with a certain subject I focus more on that subject and adapt this to still teach to the common
core.
I measure my effectiveness by test scores and seeing how much help the students need.
At the beginning of every year I give the students a benchmark test to see what they already
know, of everything Ill teach them that year. At the end of every year I give the students the
same test, of everything I taught them that year to see what they learned over the course of the
school year. For these tests I have different sections to gauge the students learning in different
areas and see what I have to work on more in the next school year.
