up confusing students. Misleading layout can be a source of
bias. I would change the layout of the selected response so
that they are consistent from the first to the second page;
place the answer space all the way to the left throughout the
whole quiz, for example.

are grouped together which does help students and teacher
alike quickly see which targets are met or need more work.

response options may be used more than once which means
it is impossible for students to arrive at the correct response
purely through elimination. That being said, this type of
question does not allow me to know if students understand
why they depend on animals or not. An open response
question would give me a better understanding of what the
students know or if they are just guessing.

how many points each question is worth. A student may
assume correctly that each question is worth one point, but
does not know that unless the teacher announces that
information. Again, if the model questions incorporated
open-responses, the point values would need adjusting as
the reply would need more weight due to a higher complexity
of questioning being used.
