1. Why does a profession like teaching require long years of initial professional education and
continuing professional development after that long, arduous initial professional education?
To be a professional in a certain field such as teaching needs a lot of preparation. In
these long years of preparations, it helps us to improve, to learn more things about the
chosen field, and organize ourselves when we face the real world. These preparations
never end because learning process is a life-time process, we live in an evolving world
wherein every year we must adapt and adjust for the changes. In teaching profession, there
are challenges we should overcome and this can help us to develop and to do this we must
have this value of “never stop learning”.
2. Explain the elements of a profession, by using acrostic
Passing or completing a university program in their chosen fields.

Requires accreditation by a regulatory body like CHED.

Overwhelming competence.

Finishing and passing licensure examination.

Ethical constraints.

Skills and knowledge development.

Striving for improvement.

Includes the practice of ethics and values.

Overcoming obstacles as part of endless learning.

Nurturing and establishment of accreditation standards.

3. Present Historical development of teacher preparation and professionalization in the Philippines from
the pre- Hispanic Philippines to Post-colonial Philippines by way of a graphic organizer.

During the pre-Hispanic period,


there was no established formal

schooling in the country. So,
there was no formal preparation SPANISH
for teachers, too. The mothers ERA
and fathers and tribal leaders
served as teachers at home and
in the community
By virtue of Educational Decree of 1863 free public-
SPANISH school system was established. There was one
school for boys and another school for girls in every
ERA municipality. The Spanish missionaries served as
teachers. The same Decree provided for a normal
school run by the Jesuits to educate male teachers in
Manila. Normal schools for women were not
established until 1875.
In 1901, the Philippine Commission enacted into
law Act 74 which created the Department of Public AMERICAN
Instruction, laid the foundations of the public-
ERA
school system, and offered free primary education
for Filipinos. Due to shortage of teachers The
Philippine Commission authorized to bring the
Philippines 600 teachers from USA. They were
the Thomasites. Free education in public schools was provided all
FIRST over the country. Vocational Education and some
household activities like sewing, cooking, and
PHILIPPINE farming were also given importance. Education
REPUBLIC also emphasized nationalism so the students were
taught about the life of the Filipino heroes. Good
manners and discipline were also taught to the
students. The institute of private education was

The education aims to make the people understand

POST The Civil Service Eligibility of teachers was made
COLONIAL permanent pursuant to R.A. 1079 in June 15, 1954. A
PERIODS daily flag ceremony was made compulsory in all
schools including the singing of the National Anthem
pursuant to R.A. 1265 approved on June 11, 1955.
1. Does the teaching profession fulfill all the elements of a profession? Explain your
answer.
Teaching recognized as a profession by the virtue of Presidential Decree 1006
that was issued by former president Marcos and yes, teaching fulfilled and must fulfill
the elements of a profession. To be a professional on this field requires lot of efforts
and investment of time, it is not a homework you can finish overnight since it is like
stairs that every step there are challenges to face and overcome. To be a
professional teacher you need to finish course or program about the chosen
profession, you also need to learn and adapt the code of ethics, and based on law
you need to pass a licensure exam and that is not the end because during the run
you need to develop yourself and learn new things because these were the elements
of profession that fulfill in teaching field.

2. Is professionalization synonymous to professionalism?


By definition, professionalization is an ongoing process to be a professional while
the professionalism is much wider and broad term because it is like a philosophical
thought that attains devotion. It means, when in the process of professionalization,
you must have and acquire to yourself the power of professionalism which could
inspire you to become professional someday.

3. To be true to your vocation and mission as a teacher, you have to “have more, do
more in order to be more” to your students and all others to whom you were sent.
What does “do more, have more in order to be more” mean?
Learning is an everlasting process. Finishing a four-year course is not enough
because as a professional teacher you must continue learning because it helps us to
have more knowledge, do more to our students and to be more to them. In simple
words, we need to improve and develop ourselves to be an inspiration to our
students because we, as a teacher we are the leader of change.

4. If you say “yes” to the call and mission to teach in this life, reflect on how you are
going to prepare yourself in this four-year teacher education course.
Someday, hard works will payed off. The challenges of this course are our
battlefield to be more prepare in facing the real world. Our mission as a teacher is
not just about to teach, our mission is to inspire the students in their betterment. To
complete this mission, we must take preparedness by investing time and efforts to
learn in this field. When we are prepared and completed all the challenges there
will be a reward waiting for us, the smiles of our students.
